MSNBC reverses decision to fire Sam Seder

Source: The Intercept

PROGRESSIVE RADIO AND television personality Sam Seder will be offered his MSNBC contributor job back and plans to accept, according to multiple MSNBC sources.

Seder and MSNBC were set to part ways when his contributor contract expired next year, with reports indicating the departure had to do with a 2009 tweet from Seder surfaced by the far-right provocateur Mike Cernovich. After initially caving in to right-wing internet outrage over the tweet, MSNBC reversed its decision to not renew Seders contract.

"I appreciate MSNBCs thoughtful reconsideration and willingness to understand the cynical motives of those who intentionally misrepresented my tweet for their own toxic, political purposes," Seder said in a statement. "We are experiencing an important and long overdue moment of empowerment for the victims of sexual assault and of reckoning for their perpetrators. Im proud that MSNBC and its staff have set a clear example of the need to get it right."

Cernovich is a right-wing provocateur and conspiracy theorist who works in hand-in-glove with white supremacists. Cernovich dug up a 2009 tweet from Seder and claimed it endorsed rape. The tweet was meant as a satirical criticism of accused rapist Roman Polanskis liberal defenders, but MSNBC took Cernovichs bad-faith reading at face value and fired Seder.

Good news for Sammy.

The people have spoken and gave MSNBC hell for caving to a smear from the Pizzagate guy.

Suck it, Cernovich!

11. Twitter isn't evil, it's an inanimate object but some of the people on it sure are.

17. To see where it gets funding

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2017/nov/05/russia-funded-facebook-twitter-investments-kushner-investor

Two Russian state institutions with close ties to Vladimir Putin funded substantial stakes in Twitter and Facebook through an investor who later acquired an interest in a Jared Kushner venture, leaked documents reveal.

The investments were made through a Russian technology magnate, Yuri Milner, who also holds a stake in a company co-owned by Kushner, Donald Trumpís son-in-law and senior White House adviser.

The discovery is likely to stir concerns over Russian influence in US politics and the role played by social media in last yearís presidential election. It may also raise new questions for the social media companies and for Kushner.

13. Hopefully

this will be the start of some sane rational thinking. People have gotten too trigger-happy with their "zero tolerance" of anything regarding sexual misconduct and right-wing political operatives are taking advantage of it. If Cernovich was going through eight year old tweets looking for dirt, imagine what else he has found that he can use to take down innocent people.

16. Exactly

You could go through anyone's life and find something that could be construed as inappropriate or offensive. I hate the whole witch hunt mentality. By the time you find out that a person is innocent, it is often too late and their life has been ruined. I'm afraid that could happen to Al Franken. People will remember the disgrace, not the vindication.

19. Aaaaaannnnnnnnnnddddddd

Who pays asshole cernovich and/or his staff to comb through the twitter accounts of people they want to target? You know it's not just Seder--they must have a long list of effective liberals they scrutinize. And it's not just twitter.

Financing an army of trolls takes a lot of money. I'm too disgusted to research the point but I'll bet the trail goes back to RW bilkionaires aka kochs and their ilk.

They want to literally silence any voices of opposition or dissent or effective truth-telling.

Fascism in action.
