Schumer advised Trump to declare Jerusalem as Israel's 'undivided' capital

Source: The Hill

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) advised President Trump to declare Jerusalem as the "undivided" capital of Israel ahead of Trump's expected announcement on the matter this week, Schumer told The Weekly Standard.

The White House said Tuesday that Trump will announce that the U.S. will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but will delay moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to there.

Trump had suggested in an October interview that he was planning to make a decision regarding the embassy, but wanted to give an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan "a shot" first, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).

Schumer himself told JTA that he supported the U.S. moving its embassy to Jerusalem, and criticized Trump over his "indecisiveness" on the issue.

14. Rump will announce it tomorrow.

President Donald Trump will officially recognize Jerusalem as Israelís capital on Wednesday and will direct the State Department to begin planning to relocate the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The decision, which was confirmed by three senior administration officials, marks a controversial shift in U.S. policy that threatens to further inflame Israeli-Palestinian tensions, as well as provoke outrage across the region

Boy, I wouldn't want to work there.
It's going to be the juciest target in the area.

18. It is sickening that this horrible man will cause many deaths.

People will die because of him. People who would not die if anyone else had been president.

But I don't expect Mueller to rush anything.
It will take as long as he thinks it should.

And No matter what he digs up on Rump there no guarantee Republicans will impeach him.

19. If they don't, or at least deploy the 25th Amendment there will be massive, multi-city...

protests in the streets that won't be one-day events.

trump's deplorable supporters will also come out and there will be clashes ó right wing militias v antifa, National Guard in the streets.

It won't be pretty.

It will be the gravest Constitutional crisis in the country's history and who knows how it will end.

Schumer is not POUTS. Trump is.

I would blame Schumer more if Trump also listened to him regarding:
Healthcare
DACA
Supreme Court Nominee
Devos
The Wall
Charlottesville
Terrorism
Gun Control
etc.

8. I did a search & saw that Schumer has been vocal on this.

There are articles dated in October 2017 where Schumer criticizes Trump for being indecisive on this, about Jerusalem needing to be Israel's capital & the U S Embassy moved there for the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem, which is this year.

Schumer's quoted as calling for this in speeches or interviews and whatnot. It's on Schumer's Senatorial website, too.

https://www.schumer.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/schumer-calls-for-us-embassy-in-israel-to-be-moved-to-jerusalem-senator-says-we-have-waited-too-long-urges-action-to-make-clear-the-us-commitment-to-move-embassy.

Well, Schumer being Jewish, I suppose he feels a close connection to the matter. I had a neighbor I knew pretty well. A Jewish man, though he didn't practice the religion and had never been to Israel. He referred to Israel as the Homeland, and strongly supported anything Israel wanted. No discussion, no wavering. He never entertained the possibility that Israel should compromise on anything, or the like. I can't say that's wrong at all. But it showed the strong feeling that some Jewish people have toward Israel. I can understand that, and suppose I might feel the same way, if I were Jewish. The Jewish people have a unique history in the world. That's bound to make an impression on descendants, regardless where they live.

I guess now we know why Trump sent his inexperienced Jewish SIL to work on a peace deal there. So he could say he "gave peace a chance" before he did this.

The Palestinians and other M.E. countries aren't going to like this. What could the ramifications be? I don't know.

46. Not on the ship

I would just have remained at NSA headquarters Ft. Meade for another 6 months, probably along side some of the men from the ship. Then who knows where. Unfortunately, I had been diagnosed as a sociopath a few months before my discharge. Hence my 100% service-connected disability. No, they could not just give me a rifle and send me to Vietnam. They probably wouldn't care if I was killed, the problem would be if I was captured and turned over to the Russian military in North Vietnam.

35. Democratic Party Platforms 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 - Jerusalem is Israel's Capital

The 2016 party platform: "While Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations, it should remain the capital of Israel, an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths. Israelis deserve security, recognition, and a normal life free from terror and incitement."

The 2012 platform: "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths."

The 2008, platform: "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths."

The 2004 platform: "Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths."

I don't agree with what Trump is doing and I don't agree with the inclusion of the above-referenced language in the Democratic Party platform. But just as I won't throw the entire Democratic Party under the bus for the platform language, I'm not throwing Schumer under the bus for basically reiterating that platform position.

36. Ah, well, there you go. Thanks for the info. We should know this, right?

If that is the case, though...then what's the big deal about Trump reiterating it? And WHY is the United States naming the capital of another country?

Clearly, we haven't been following this issue in the Democratic Party. Thanks.

But I disagree just a bit on that point. I think once an organized major party puts it in its platform, it has no basis to complain, when the country then does that very thing in practice.

After all, the past four Democratic Party platforms have called for Jerusalem to be recognized as the capital of Israel.

I don't think its a good idea to do so and I'm Jewish. There are people who think Jerusalem should be moved who aren't Jewish.

How does tRump saying that he recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel make it so?

Has he got a magic wand that changes the city's status?

I suppose that he could say that Schenectady is the capital of New York State, but I doubt that New Yorkers would accept that as a fact.
