Cop fired after commenting 'love this' on Charlottesville rally car attack photo

Source: The Hill

A Springfield, Mass. police officer has been fired after making inflammatory comments on Facebook in August about the fatal car attack at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., according to MassLive.

Conrad Lariviere reportedly wrote, “Hahahaha love this. Maybe people shouldn't block roadways,” in a comment on an article about the car that struck a crowd of counter-protestors at the rally, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and injuring others.

You know, out of uniform in uniform, and everyone that works for someone, you represent who you work for during and after work and if you can't take responsibility for representing you employer during work and out off work time, then you should be fired.

That paints with a broad brush indeed

By this logic a health care guru caught eating donuts in a coffee shop should be fired, and getting a
speeding ticket on the way to church would can all who drive vehicles for their employers.

There are many examples of how you live your life can affect your job security.
Donuts? What a horrible example.

It's not a subject to be universally generalized, called by the logicians universal instantiation.

It's a logical fallacy.

Donuts may be a poor example, though I don't think so, because in many professions gaining 50 pounds by donuts
will get you fired or phased out. Beauty queens, dancers, high wire act, for example.

of them. How can people trust that they'll be treated the SAME AS ANYONE ELSE, when this ASS laughs at the tragic and horrifically sad MURDER of a young woman by a racist maniac? REALLY? He DESERVES to be fired, considering that everyday Americans PAY his salary. FUCK HIM!!

trusted with authority, and apparently his superiors thought so. Good riddance.

Turbinetree, I can't imagine that a person who has the right stuff would ever say something like this, even as a sort of relaxed toss-off joke. For sure I would not want this officer to know I was a Democrat if he stopped me for some reason.

"The local police union representing Springfield’s police department said in a statement that it is “disappointed” by the decision to terminate Lariviere’s employment, arguing that he made the comments as a private citizen.

“His point was that such disorderly behavior has serious consequences, and both sides of the dispute bore responsible for the disruptions,” the statement read."

First of all, if you had watched any of the many youtube videos on Charlottesville, you would know that those people were in the street because they WERE FORCED THERE BY THE POLICE. The police pushed them out of the park and forced them into the street, and then abandoned them and stood by while Mr. Basement Dweller plowed them with his car.

Second of all, I love his comment about how he's the one facing the real danger. Because based on just about every video I've seen on the Charlottesville protests, the police pretty much stood around and did nothing. It was Antifa and the counterportesters that were facing a violent and heavily armed mob in defense of justice and equality. Not the cowardly police who hid in the background and watched it all happen while doing nothing to stop it.
