Tillerson condemns violence against LGBT people on Transgender Day of Remembrance

Source: The Hill

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 11/20/17 11:45 AM EST

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson released a statement marking Monday as Transgender Day of Remembrance. Tillerson’s statement condemned the violence against transgender individuals, saying that they “should not be subjected to violence or discrimination.”

“Transgender individuals and their advocates, along with lesbian, gay, bisexual and intersex persons, are facing increasing physical attacks and arbitrary arrests in many parts of the world,” Tillerson wrote. “Often these attacks are perpetrated by government officials, undermining the rule of law.”

Transgender Day of Remembrance has been commemorated on Nov. 20 for nearly 20 years, and the White House began participating in 2012, according to GLAAD.

“On this Transgender Day of Remembrance, the United States remains committed to advancing the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all persons,” Tillerson’s statement read. “These principles are inherent in our own Constitution and drive the diplomacy of the United States.”
The Trump administration has been criticized for its treatment of transgender rights.

What a goddamned liar! This administration is going this direction: Turkish capital Ankara bans all gay rights functions, it is not going this direction: "...United States remains committed to advancing the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all persons"!

I love how this piece of shit 'laments' over the treatment of GLBT around the world, yet neglects to mention the situation in the US with increasing attacks on the GLBT, especially gay men, the rash of murders of transgender women, the FACT it is LEGAL to discriminate in many states against the GLBT in employment and housing...OH YEAH, and the fact the very fucking administration he works for has been instrumental in attacking the rights of the GLBT, especially the transgender community!

Tillerson is a willing participant in an administration hostile to the rights and protected liberties of those gay and transgender.

An administration that seeks through judicial appointments to allow the states to once again discriminate against gay and transgender Americans, to make being gay a crime, and to deny gay Americans their 14th Amendment right to access marriage law.
