The global perception of the United States dropped significantly in the past year as a result of a Trump effect, according to a Anholt-GfK nation brand index study released Thursday.
The country dropped from first to sixth place in rankings of nations global perception. The U.S. was the only country in the top 10, now led by Germany, to see a decline from 2016.
U.K. political consultant Simon Anholt, who created the study in 2005, said in a release that the ranking decline, particularly in the category of governance, is likely a result of President Trumps America First message and policies.
The USAs fall in the Governance category suggests that we are witnessing a Trump effect, following President Trumps focused political message of America First, Anholt said in a release.

The Nation Brands Index (NBI) survey, carried out by German-based market research firm GfK and the British political consultant Simon Anholt, measured public opinion around the world on "the power and quality of each country's 'brand image.'"
Germany moved up to first place after coming in second in 2016. The US dropped from top to sixth, with France, Britain, Canada and Japan taking spots two to five.
The study calculated the final NBI score by researching how well people viewed a country across six categories: its people, governance, exports, tourism, investment and immigration, and culture and heritage.
The land of sausages, Merkel and "Made in Germany" was in the top five for all but one category. Only in "tourism" did Germany fall outside the top five, coming in 10th.

(58,785 posts)lot of conservative admirers around the globe. Reminds me of that South Korean gentleman who hoped last week that Trump would nuke NK even if it killed him and everyone he knows.

(101,271 posts)Exports - Apple, Google etc. - are still a major American success. Culture - Hollywood, pop music - is still popular, worldwide. And the USA is still a fairly good place to migrate to, or invest in (only 5th in that category).
If you say "conservative", you're probably thinking of governance. The USA has fallen from 19th to 23rd in that.
