NRA opposes legislation banning bump stocks

Source: the hill

By Mallory Shelbourne - 10/12/17 02:54 PM EDT

The National Rifle Association (NRA) on Thursday said it opposes legislation in both the House and the Senate that would ban the use of bump stocks, a device that can be used to increase a semi-automatic rifle’s rate of fire and was found in the hotel room of the Las Vegas shooter.

“The NRA opposes the Feinstein and Curbelo legislation,” Jennifer Baker, the director of public affairs for the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, told The Hill, referencing legislation in both chambers.

"These bills are intentionally overreaching and would ban commonly owned firearm accessories," Baker continued.

The NRA’s opposition to the bill comes as Democrats and some Republican lawmakers have called for legislation banning bump stocks in the wake of the country’s deadliest mass shooting.

Lets just hope that Congress will have enough votes to get this bill passed.

2. Nothing

at the link had anything more than bump-stocks,
there was nothing about 'commonly owned firearm accessories',
other than bump-stocks. However, we know how sensitive
'armed america' is about any regulation on anything. and as
the shock and horror of vegas recedes..so will the initial
determination to do something constructive.
Pity..

8. The evil folks running the NRA are OK with a "firearm accessory" to create an automatic

machine gun? How evil can you get?

The silence of the NRA defenders is deafening.

9. Stick a fork in it... That idea of banning bump stocks is done.

The NRA used to be for sportsmen, hunters and gun safety.

Now it has become an industry owned shill for the sale of more guns and the enrichment of its leaders.

59 deaths and hundreds of wounded are merely collateral damage to the NRA.

11. I knew something was up....

when they stated they didn't mind if bans were "explored". Apparently they've explored far enough.

How I HATE those evil bastards! I believe in the 2nd amendment, but these ass-clowns just won't agree to any reasonable restrictions on the type of guns (and their "make them more lethal" attachments) or deadly ammunition. These dopes need automatic weapons with armor piercing ammunition to even the playing field with those blood thirsty deer.

Fucktards for Trump....... the NRA.

12. I want them to answer.

What does a hunter or someone securing their house who is not a soldier need with the ability to rapid-fire, which is primarily used against multiple offensive targets at once?

It's not necessary for the general public to bypass regulations and paperwork that needs to be completed to grant that kind of firepower.

For some reason they sent me a survey form. I filled it out with a hearty "Go Fuck Yourselves" in magic marker.

Off in the mail it went!!

14. That moron Scalise...

Who was shot himself, no less...said the 2nd Amendment had "no limits"

WTF??

I suppose I can order a fully armed F15...or a loaded M1A1 Abrams?

How about a nuke? Well, Steve? Can I have my own nuke for self-defense?

(and anybody who thought the NRA would support the bump stock ban is fooling themselves.....it was spotted as a LIE the minute it was made public)

overreach in the interests of gun regulation?

21. It's all in the details from what I've read.

Like many said, there'd be a bunch of other BS tossed in to make it a poison pill.

It's the whole "any device" trick...

could mean triggers, lightened bolt carriers, recoil springs ect...the list could be endless.

of NRA and Republican "commitments" to ban bump stocks. Is anybody surprised? I didn't think so.

22. Well of course they do.

Enabling the killing of people is how they make their money. The more people killed, the more sales they make through marketing the fear of being killed.

24. Should definitely ban bump stocks, But the Feinstein bill sucks.

But the Feintstein bill is poorly written, and will not pass as written

What we need to do is reclassify what a machine gun is by amending the National Firearms Act. We need to add a rate of fire restriction.

The Feinstein bill would make precision triggers used by competitive target shooters illegal since they reduce lock time and TECHNICALLY decrease cycle time.

Also, what the heck does rate of fire mean for a semi-auto?

Maybe find a way to write the law that requires the trigger to be manually actuated by the finger, without any assistance.

27. NRA wants a narrow definition of banned bump stocks, Feinstein wants an open definition

Honestly, I feel that they are pretty close, but if neither side moves, then it will not happen.
