I Hate Everyone in the White House!: Trump Seethes as Advisers Fear the President Is Unraveling

Source: Vanity Fair

At first it sounded like hyperbole, the escalation of a Twitter war. But now it’s clear that Bob Corker’s remarkable New York Times interview—in which the Republican senator described the White House as “adult day care” and warned Trump could start World War III—was an inflection point in the Trump presidency. It brought into the open what several people close to the president have recently told me in private: that Trump is “unstable,” “losing a step,” and “unraveling.”

The conversation among some of the president’s longtime confidantes, along with the character of some of the leaks emerging from the White House has shifted. There’s a new level of concern. NBC News published a report that Trump shocked his national security team when he called for a nearly tenfold increase in the country’s nuclear arsenal during a briefing this summer. One Trump adviser confirmed to me it was after this meeting disbanded that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a “moron.”

In recent days, I spoke with a half dozen prominent Republicans and Trump advisers, and they all describe a White House in crisis as advisers struggle to contain a president who seems to be increasingly unfocused and consumed by dark moods. Trump’s ire is being fueled by his stalled legislative agenda and, to a surprising degree, by his decision last month to back the losing candidate Luther Strange in the Alabama Republican primary. “Alabama was a huge blow to his psyche,” a person close to Trump said. “He saw the cult of personality was broken.”

According to two sources familiar with the conversation, Trump vented to his longtime security chief, Keith Schiller, “I hate everyone in the White House! There are a few exceptions, but I hate them!” (A White House official denies this.) Two senior Republican officials said Chief of Staff John Kelly is miserable in his job and is remaining out of a sense of duty to keep Trump from making some sort of disastrous decision. Today, speculation about Kelly’s future increased after Politico reported that Kelly’s deputy Kirstjen Nielsen is likely to be named Homeland Security Secretary—the theory among some Republicans is that Kelly wanted to give her a soft landing before his departure.

2. Wow. Article also says Bannon warned Trump he could be removed via 25th Amendment, and Bannon

told others he gives Trump only a 30% chance of lasting for a full term:

Several months ago, according to two sources with knowledge of the conversation, former chief strategist Steve Bannon told Trump that the risk to his presidency wasn’t impeachment, but the 25th Amendment—the provision by which a majority of the Cabinet can vote to remove the president. When Bannon mentioned the 25th Amendment, Trump said, “What’s that?” According to a source, Bannon has told people he thinks Trump has only a 30 percent chance of making it the full term.

Did you see my Christmas card from a different post? The idea is still valid so I might use it again and just change the date.

26. Ever since there were reports that they may also be in trouble with Mueller

They have been hiding.

I think the glitz and glamour Ivanka envisioned, being invited to all the best parties, being the belle of the ball on a world stage, that shine is wearing off.

I can't even say I am disappointed in Ivanka. As I think many, including myself, were attaching some kind of personal ethics and intelligence onto her that she quite clearly did not deserve.

She and Jared did not HAVE to agree to be a part of their fathers administration, to embrace the nepotism. At the very least, even if she remained silent, they could have simply declined any role, any complicity, and focused on their own private businesses during their fathers reign.

She is complicit now. And will go down in history as a weak, entitled, ignorant, POS. Sad.

Kushner is totally MIA,having completely failed to accomplish anything at all besides piss off Israel and the Palestinians at the same time (not easy to do). Oh, I forgot he was successful at colluding, but of course the praise isn't his, he was just in the room and agreeing. Ivanka is special to him in a sickening way and that's her family job right now. She only goes with him when she has an opportunity to use her position to enrich herself or sit in his lap again.

42. It's amazing how quickly and quietly it happened.

I can't remember all of the things Kushner was supposed to be doing(looking it up now, found it)

Middle east Negotiations (Iran deal on shaky ground)
Opioid Crisis (nothing at all)
Diplomacy with Mexico (they hate us)
Diplomacy with China (sitting off to the side laughing at us)
Reforming Veterans care (privatize it, or nothing)
Criminal Justice Reform (KKK-good people, protesting being brutalized-terroristic)

and

annnnnnnd

Reinventing the government....... so that it works like a business (well, the executive board..... er I mean the cabinet, has already figured out the best ways to abuse the company charge card.)

Kushner has done nothing at all except forget everything he needed to put on his security clearance forms. As it stands, he has no real job in government other than to exist and defend himself against all of the shit he forgot to put on his security forms.. His security clearance should have been pulled yesterday.

11. Well, if they're going to use the 25th to get rid of him, they better do it fast!

If they don't, god only knows what this psychopath will do, especially if Kelly leaves or he fires him. 'rump has demonstrated that like the big, mentally deficient baby boy he is that he wants to use his nuclear firepower on somebody, anybody, for any old reason. This is the same guy that wanted Kremlin-style procession of tanks and ranks of soldiers marching down Pennsylvania Avenue on his inauguration. This guy's dangerous and I hope and pray every day that if he orders a first strike, or he decides to open up the nuclear football, the legitimate codes are nowhere within reach of him. I think he'd love to provoke a strike on the U.S. by Un, especially if it meant taking out Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle (that'd be his big bonus), because he's got an itchy finger just jonesing to "push the button".

Saw a clip of him last week talking about "parades". He was really so excited and animated talking about how he's still going to have the mother of all parades showcasing all "his" big beautiful military weapons with all the wonderful military people walking alongside and saluting him. He really wants this to happen, has no idea how much it shows what a tinpot dictator he's aiming to be.

This is all classic trump. It's predictable. Endorsing Strange was his downfall. For normal politicians it wouldn't be but for 45 it's not surprising. Great read.

I know that sounds like hair-splitting, high-falutin' fancy psychological babble, but it's clear from how he talks and the things that he does that that is how he views his world, and it's a million times scarier than if he were just a mere narcissist.

I doubt many thought it would be THIS bad, but the bare bones of the administration functioning, and the behavior of the President, is a repeat of the way things were on the campaign trail.

But now it is VERY serious with nuclear weapons involved. This was the guy who said on the campaign trail, "What's the good of nukes if you don't use 'em?"

36. 'He saw the cult of personality was broken.'

I maintain there was never a cult of personality. Anecdotally, everyone who acknowledges supporting Conald did so either in the expectation of financial windfall or as part of a coalition of group of antis (e.g. Abortion, PoCs, Libtards, and other assorted hate groups.) None of them ever really cared for the Stale Circus Peanut himself... But, were invested instead in advancing a single item agenda or watching the world burn.

Add into that interference and meddling on the part of both foreign and corporate interests and the Orange Bloat's cherished "cult" boils down to about 70,000 people located in various strategic districts within the Electoral College.

Just ask them; if they are, they'll say "no". Guaranteed!

39. All Mr Trump has to do to become more popular with Americans is STOP letting Republicans & 'Aids'

stab him in the back.

Work with the Ds in Congress & Senate, call Obama & discuss.

The elected Ds MEANT IT when they said they would work with the president.

Obama MEANT IT when he said he will always accept a call and will NEVER discuss what he and Trump talk about.

Mr. Trump the Republican party will continue to stab you in the back & throw your whole family under the bus to protect their own interests.

41. tRump is headed for his Captain Queeg moment.

In the Caine Mutiny, Queeg has his episodes of being a jerk. But his men know something is very, very wrong. He is not just a jackass. Finally, their patience wears out and the mutiny happens for the good of the ship and its sailors. Only when Queeg is under the stress of the trial does he fully reveal to the officers how mentally unraveled he is. They watch in horror as his pathology is there for all to see. And then Queeg knows that THEY know.

tRump is on this path. He is coming to understand that his life is no longer his own. He is used to being obeyed, always. Now he is finding severe limits on his behavior. The only place he can feel like himself is Twitter. The lies have to come thick and fast to cover his very obvious moves.

So the pressure builds. It is apparent that he is reaching a breaking point. Whether he quits in a huff or has a very public breakdown/meltdown, followed by Article 25, remain to be seen. But it is coming. That much seems clear. The best we can hope for is that it is soon before he brings us all down with his madness. Signs of mutiny are abundant.

46. Sounds like the money and support has decided to go...elsewhere.

“He saw the cult of personality was broken.”

" to a surprising degree, by his decision last month to back the losing candidate Luther Strange in the Alabama Republican primary"

Didn't Bannon back Moore?

And Bannon is saying Trump has a 30% chance of remaining in office?

Bannon worked for the Mercers before he worked for Trump and then he went back to working for the Mercers (Breitbart)

48. Trump has never had to work before.

He's especially never had to work where so many people's lives depend on the decisions he makes (or doesn't make). He's 70, and never having worked in government before, this is not the time to learn how government works: that it isn't a dictatorship, and he can't just make things happen because they pop into his mind. That's where his obsessive use of 'twitter' comes into use for him. He sits on his golden toilet seat (I'm sure it was brought with him to the White House) and twitters away, dreaming that he's 'Dictator of the United States' instead of merely "president", and ruling his domain via twitter, and that everything would be done just as he tweeted.

He's lost, mentally incapable of the position of President (like we all knew before the election), and Vladimir Putin's script is moving along just as planned. He's turned the world's greatest democracy upside down. I only hope he doesn't have another 'Trump' he's groomed in the wings, or this Republic is doomed.

55. So will he stamp his feet and shake his little fists and yell real loud?

He seems to have no other talent except making a lot of noise and commanding media attention, which he gets!

His only policy is to unravel whatever has Obama's name on it.

And lie, lie, lie all the time--he's a compulsive liar, can't help himself.

But I think things are now shifting away from him. He's losing power with every false move and pretty soon will be nothing but a blubbering schoolyard bully. Interesting to watch.

I'm not really scared that he will actually DO anything. Most of his moves have been reactions--to try to undo Obama's legacy, and otherwise just keep making noise.

56. Trump has access to the nukes.

That alone is reason for extreme concern if he's 'unraveling,' 'losing a step,' or 'unstable.' The guy has access to the fucking nuclear codes!

Any Republicans out there with the cajones to invoke Amendment 25?

I hope so, because this un-American traitor who, with his wreckers, is systematically destroying this country's moral, social, economic and institutional fabric needs to be removed from office before he can do more damage than he already has.

91. Duty to Warn: He will continue to get worse.

I feel like we are frogs in a pot of boiling water. Our national predicament is terrifying. The temperature keeps rising week-by-week, but someone we are "getting used to it."

I think we really need to "get" just how dangerously mentally ill he is. It's urgent.

A few tidbits from psychologist/psychiatrists in Duty to Warn: The Movie

Lance Dodes
"Like any conman, he'll lie... There is that kind of lying. There's also another, a deeper kind of lying, which is because he needs so much to see the world the way he sees it, he's out of touch with reality to that degree. Because he sees the world the way he needs to, because of his tremendous emotional instability. Part of the lying is kind of a delusional thinking. He makes up reality."

He will continue to get worse. Until he is removed by the Constitutional means, he will continue.. the more attacked he is, the more paranoid he's gonna become, and the more horrible will be his actions.

Michael Tansey
"We're talking about a guy who has psychotic, core beliefs -- of grandeur on the one side, and on the other side, there are enemies everywhere."

Philip Zimbardo
"as he feels more threatened, as his power is more threatened, he's likely to do more dangerous, more extreme things, to get attention"
