House GOP says Las Vegas massacre inspired them to crack down on reproductive rights

Source: Think Progress

In the aftermath of two recent acts of gun violence, the House GOP caucus has been inspired not to pursue gun control legislation that could prevent future mass shootings, but instead to crack down on reproductive rights.

“As we mourn the lives lost in Las Vegas this week, and welcome Whip Scalise back to Capitol Hill, we are reminded just how precious life is,” the GOP caucus writes in a blog post about new anti-abortion legislation approved by the House on Tuesday. “This message weighed heavily on the hearts of House Republicans as we spoke of the potential of life — especially lives cut short through abortion.”

The post goes on to discuss Republicans’ motivations for supporting the so-called Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protections Act, which, as CNN reports, “would criminalize abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for instances where the life of the mother is at risk and in cases involving rape or incest.”

The bill was approved by a largely party-line 237-189 vote in the House on Tuesday night. Though it has a harder path forward in the Senate, President Donald Trump has pledged to sign it if the legislation makes it to his desk.

This is just beyond making comments, just by the headline alone, tells me the right wing republicans are insane, and have no business being in power

They know that what they say is a stretch for anyone with a thinking mind! This little scene is for those religious fanatics that certain members of Congress are always pandering to!

And these idiots are not suppose to be in power, they're suppose to govern...big difference!

What is the relation between guns control and reproductive rights ???

They came with a pretty flawed comparison and a more flawed justification.

Their only pretense at being Pro-Life is attacking women's rights.

Help Americans have health insurance? "Life-saving medical care is not a right but a privilege."

Save lives on Puerto Rico? "They are lazy and need to help themselves. And they are in debt."

Limit Gun Deaths? "Our GOD, the NRA, believes in the fifth commandment: Thou shall not prevent Americans from hoarding military grade weapons."

Help Feed the Poor? "Meals on Wheels and SNAP cost too much. We must fund government paid air travel so our reps don't have to drive 2 hours, or fly commercial airlines."

Fund the Center for Disease Control? "But we need to cut taxes for our wealthy donors"

Avoid Wars? "But they are so profitable!"

They'll just fly to Canada or Sweden or any country of their choice where the abortion is legal, like they did in the 50s and 60s. These laws really only affect middle class and, especially, poor women...women who need abortion the most.

we will only considered breeding stock. As you know with every bill they always sneak other rules in. I say that rape will be excusable if the rapist gets the female ( any age ) pregnant. If they do not get pregnant then it will still be legal because the stupid woman did not get pregnant then she might as well be worth something. The only reason they will not let an incest pregnancy go full term is that it could mean more than likely the child will be born with some type of health problems and that would decrease the productivity in future laborers. At some point if we can not carry to term because we are going to die they will just let us die because we will not be worth anything. Then there are those of us who could never have children. They will just put us to sleep ( or shoot us ) as we would be a strain on society.

Consider this also. If they breed women like this then murder of certain classes will be legal because the government will just breed more of them.

Yeah, those people killed were not individuals with different lives and different personalities or have anything special to offer this world that no one else could offer as well.

Those assholes in our administration do not even consider us humans.

They are so against Sharia law while at the same time they are creating one themselves for the rest of us and particularly us women.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to someday see a requirement to be in a genetic database, based on some lame excuse tied to health or religion. That's a big fad with right-wingers right now.

If you're going to build a perfect white plutocracy, 'ya gotta have the best stock.

I mean, what fun are military assault weapons without humans to shoot? And let's make sure they have no health care coverage if they manage to survive the initial barrage of bullets and make it to a hospital.

My "thoughts and prayers" have been with the hundreds in the hospitals, hoping that they aren't discharged and find themselves in bankruptcy.
