Rep. Tim Murphy, popular with pro-life movement, urged abortion in affair, texts suggest

A text message sent in January to U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy by a woman with whom he had an extra-marital relationship took him to task for an anti-abortion statement posted on Facebook from his office's public account.

"And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options," Shannon Edwards, a forensic psychologist in Pittsburgh with whom the congressman admitted last month to having a relationship, wrote to Mr. Murphy on Jan. 25, in the midst of an unfounded pregnancy scare.

A text from Mr. Murphy’s cell phone number that same day in response says, "I get what you say about my March for life messages. I've never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don't write any more. I will."

The congressman has been lauded by the Family Research Council, for his stance on abortion, as well as for family values, generally. He also has been endorsed by LifePAC, which opposes abortion rights, and is a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus, an affiliation that is often cited by his office.

Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), a prominent pro-life conservative previously backed by the National Right to Life Committee, urged a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair with to get an abortion, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

“You have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options,” Murphy’s former lover Shannon Edwards wrote in a text message after the GOP Congressman wrote an anti-abortion post on his Facebook account.

In a transcript of the text message thread obtained by the Post-Gazette, Murphy tried to mitigate Edwards’ charges of hypocrisy. “I get what you say about my March for life [sic] message,” Murphy wrote to Edwards. “I’ve never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don’t write any more. I will.”

Murphy last month admitted to an affair with Edwards, a forensic psychologist and personal friend, after Edwards’ husband sought to depose the congressman during divorce proceedings.

I'm pro-choice myself, but I can see how somebody could feel differently.

But NO respect when they force their politically convenient and draconian views on other people while ignoring them for themselves.

According to the article, he told Ms. Shannon Edwards that he had "fallen into" a relationship with a woman named "Susan." Coincidentally, there have been rumors circulating around his district that he had had an affair with his chief of staff, Susan Mosychuk.

That very same chief of staff in June of this year authored a 6 page memo to Murphy complaining of harassment and a hostile working environment.

We pull our hair out when we hear about the hypocrisy, but in truth, we didn't vote these assholes into office.

Our neighbors did. And they'll do it again.

How did barely 35% of the population seize control over most states, the House, the Senate, the Oval Office, and the Supreme Court?

And what the fuck is wrong with those people? It must be a recessive trait that afflicts some people like a mental illness.

Kick and rec. May their lies and hypocrisy receive nationwide exposure. May he and his ilk receive a resounding defeat in the next election, may their agenda be smashed to bits, then crushed and permanently buried under the unstoppable force of justice! May patriarchy fall.
