Sanders briefly suggests NFL players should protest police, not the flag

Source: MSN/CNN

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders suggested Monday that NFL players protesting police brutality should focus their protests on police officers on the sidelines of NFL games rather than kneeling during the national anthem.

"I think if this -- the debate is really for them about police brutality they should probably protest the officers on the field who are protecting them instead of the American flag," Sanders said.

She later clarified that she wasn't suggesting people protest police, but was pointing out that it is inappropriate to protest the flag over their concerns.

"No, no that's not what I'm saying. I was kind of pointing out the hypocrisy of the fact that if the goal is and the message is one of police brutality, then that doesn't seem very appropriate to protest the American flag. I'm not sure how those two things would be combined," Sanders said.

Amazing. The Trump administration throws police under the bus given the solidarity shown against the President's attack on Black NFL players. I guess it is much better if people are attacking each other, rather than showing unity in defying the President.

1. Changing your title to include Sarah would be the right thing to do.

We can do this all day. You would still be wrong.

13. So MSN is up to something? Some grand conspiracy?

MSN created this exact headline because DU has a rule to use the exact headline? Just to frustrate individuals who can't figure out from the context that it is the WH spokeperson?

Can you say paranoia? Common journalistic standards are not good enough for you?

21. Really? So you can't defend your position?

There are many of current headlines that have "Sanders" without a first name. It is dead obvious which one each is about, if one pays the slightest attention to the rest of the headline.

If one needs the first name to know who is defending Trump and who is debating healthcare, there is a lack of knowledge of current events going on. It is not a sufficient reason to break forum rules.

22. You appear to have an agenda here. The author of this post has a history regarding Sanders. I don't

go out of my way to track these things but I recall him tying Sanders into a story about Trump wqntinv to rip up NAFTA when sanders wasn't mentioned in the article.

25. I have no agenda other than pointing out that forum rules exist.

And that hypersensitive reasons are no good enough to break forum rules.

It is totally obvious which Sanders the OP refers to. It would be extremely shocking if it was not Sarah Sanders.

If you have so little faith that people might think that it was not Sarah Sanders, you could post a comment saying who it was, instead of hijacking the thread by encouraging someone to break forum rules.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/25/jared-kushner-personal-email-white-house-response-243111

Another, totally unrelated story. Assuming the link doesn't change, to post this in LNB (story has been, so it would get locked as a dup) one would have to quote the headline. "Sanders: Personal email use for White House business 'very limited'"

Another headline: "Sanders: America must guarantee health care 'as a right for all people'"

Is there any doubt which Sanders was meant in either of those?

1. The rule is this: "Use the published title of the story as the title of the discussion thread."

Minor tweaks in order to clarify ambiguous titles have always been permitted. Usually clarifying information is posted in parentheses to show that it was added. Like if a headline refers to "Sanders" but the article is about Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the poster might clarify by writing putting "Sarah Huckabee" in parentheses in the title so people don't think the post is about Bernie Sanders.

26. Hmm, that message thread does not come up when starting a new LBN post.

So I guess somewhere, if one searches hard enough, one can find that some things are tacitly allowed, even though the rules posted when starting an LBN thread explictly state that the exact headline must be used.

As it is obvious which Sanders the OP is about, I don't personally see a need for clarification, but I guess there could be those so uninformed that they think Bernie Sanders would side with Trumplethinskin on anything.

You asked. It was shown, by the owner of the site, it is permissible to change the title. At no point did you ask for anything else, such as it popping up when creating a new post. Perhaps you should go to ATA and inquire.

29. The point is, you essentially had to do just that.

If one is to start a thread in LBN, what one sees is that the exact headline is required. No exceptions are listed. I normally don't bother with LBN anymore as I find the rules rather restrictive. What passes as national news if it happens on the coasts often is deemed local news in the midwest.

None of which changes the fact that the only Sanders supporting Cheatolini's talking points is Sarah Sanders. She is surprisingly limber, twisting herself into pretzels to echo his "logic". If one needs help in knowing what Sanders is the topic of pretty much any headline, they are quite uninformed. One needs an ambiguous headline to make the case for the exception and frankly this one is nonambiguous in my opinion.

If this is how the administration wants the protest to go, they should fly every offending police officer that's gotten away with brutality to every single NFL game to be protested by the players.
