Poll: Kid Rock trailing Stabenow by almost 20 points

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 09/21/17 10:10 AM EDT

Possible GOP Senate hopeful Kid Rock is trailing Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) by double digits in a new poll.

The musician, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, trails the senior Democratic senator from Michigan, 52 to 34 percent, in a hypothetical match-up, according to a Media Research Group poll released early Thursday.

MRG's president, Tom Shields, said Ritchie has so far been unable to translate his star power into support among voters. “Kid Rock would have an uphill climb against Stabenow if he were serious about getting into the race,” Shields said in a statement.

The poll shows Democrats supporting Stabenow by an 87 to 9 percent margin, while Republicans were more tepid in their support of Ritchie. Sixty-six percent of Republicans said they would support him, while 13 percent would support Stabenow and 20 percent are undecided or won't vote.

One of the Minnesota senators got elected largely on star power, but he's turned out to be an excellent senator.

I remember a couple of Republican celebrities who were decent rank-and-file congressmen. Sonny Bono's big accomplishment was protecting the Salton Sea. And Fred Grandy, as far as I remember, went there and just worked. He served before 24-hour news and C-SPAN were things, so who knows what he'd be like now.

I think Kid Rock would go there to fight with the Democrats.

Hopefully the electorate will see now that a person should not go from having nothing to do with politics to high office in one jump.

All they have to do is make sure the stupidest person wins - the end result is a weakening of the US.

And Kid Rock it just about as stupid as stupid gets - ie the perfect candidate.

I live in Michigan. We have two Dem Senators - Stabenow and Peters. They are doing a fine job for us. I have never been a Kid Rock fan after he sold out, went country and flew that Confederate rag at his concerts. Yes he stopped flying it, but most of his supporters are RW repubs. If Kid Rock wants to run he needs to do it the correct way. I don't think he wants to give up the money.

Both Stabenow and Peters are moderate politicians which is a stance reflecting the purple makeup of this state. Which means, of course, I have many disagreements with them. I contact them frequently and get thoughtful replies in return. Contrast that to the condescending, hateful replies I receive from the R reps I shake my fist at.

Even some very liberal friends like him, proclaiming "look at everything he's done for Detroit". Just because you are charitable doesn't mean you're not an asshole. He's centrist just enough on some social issues to attract a lot of voters. Our party needs to take this threat seriously and start fighting him now before he gets too much steam.

Finding the skeletons in his closet won't do it. Look at the monstrosity that was elected President. We need to shut this shit down.

The only thing he did as far as I'm concerned was keep me out of Detroit last weekend - I've been doing the Tour de Troit bike ride for years, but this year it coincided with six night of Kid Rock shows at LCA and I decided not to deal with it, so I didn't go.

His brewery, AFAIK, shut down, right?

Her campaign ca not be fooled into thinking this will be a pretty fight. Robbie Richie will get nasty and will have the backing of the RNC, just to get rid of her and make this country a bigger farce than we have already become.

She can't stay nice, she has to hit him with facts constantly and not let up until she is sworn in.

This whole "White Trash Sweet Home Rags-to-Riches Country King" ruse he pulls is BULLSHIT.

He grew up on a 30 acre, 1.2 million dollar estate with an apple orchard and a stable. His dad owned six car dealerships.

He can talk about "growing up on the streets" all he wants . . . fact is, he ALWAYS had a safety net.
