(27,803 posts)It was awful reading about the part where they emergency responders all said they were prepared for this, and that the school had just had a lockdown drill yesterday (it's good that they have both, bad that there is a need for both).

(13,582 posts)I live near Rockford, Wa. Here is some further information.
Freeman is a small rural high school with a total enrollment of 327 students covering 9th - 12th grade. Rockford, Wa is a small tight knit community in rural eastern Washington state. Latest news saying the high school has been cleared and the single shooter is in custody.
Given the size of a Rockford and Freeman Hogh School - it is highly likely that most students know the shooter and the victims.
Heartbreaking.

(13,582 posts)One dead, three at hospital in satisfactory condition. Could be as many as three more on way to hospital - but information is spotty at the moment.

(24,282 posts)I spent a week or so up there last October. The only black people I saw were basketball players at Gonzaga. Not many other minorities, either. Being from California, it was strange seeing nothing but white people everywhere we went. Very nice people, though.

(53,061 posts)When staying there a while back they were filming a movie and urgently requested minorities for extras. We showed up and were on every scene. When I was in college Spokane elected it's first AA mayor. Don't hold your breath for number 2.

(86,572 posts)like in 2004, I worked for a state agency and my job was to compose a strategy for PIOs to approach minority communities... I found that there is a high number of Hmong and many other SE Asian Islander groups in much of the state, most around Seattle but also a high concentration of Ukranians.
All the same, looking at the census data, roughly 80% of the state's population is white.
