Could this be a game-changer for Middle East peace?

Source: Washington Post

The Trump administration is exploring new approaches for easing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that build on talks with a budding Sunni Arab coalition of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Jordan.

Jared Kushner, the White House senior adviser and presidential son-in-law, visited the leaders of all four countries during his Middle East trip this week. He was accompanied by special envoy Jason D. Greenblatt and deputy national security adviser Dina Powell. The group came away hopeful that the new generation of Arab leaders is a potential “game-changer,” said a senior administration official.

Prince Khaled bin Salman, the Saudi ambassador to Washington, gave an upbeat account of the talks with Kushner. He said that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, his older brother, “is optimistic in light of the commitment of Donald Trump to achieve a just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians.” He said that this week’s visit “cemented Saudi and other Arab officials’ respect” for Kushner and his team, who organized Trump’s visit to the kingdom in May.

Kushner meets Abbas, Netanyahu to try to restart talks
Aug 24, 2017

US presidential adviser and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has met with Palestinian and Israeli leaders to try to jumpstart moribund peace talks.

Kushner met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday before holding talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Expectations were low as the White House has yet to outline a clear vision for peace.

A. The Coalition pressures Israel to vacate existing settlements on Palestinian land, withdraws to its original 1947 borders, won't build new settlements on Palestinian land, and supports a Palestinian sovereign state including part of Jerusalem. (Not going to happen.)

or

B. The Coalition pressures Palestinians to permanently abandon their borders and hopes for a state in the future, including Jerusalem, allows Israel to take full control of the West Bank and Gaza, making the settlements fully recognized towns, villages, and cities. (Not going to happen.)

The 1948 borders are unsustainable for Israel. It also rewards the Palestinians for decades of terrorism. They should have taken the state 70 years ago. That offer will never be made again and it's fault of their own leadership. There will eventually be land swaps, something along the lines of 1967 and the biggest hurdle will be weapons.
