Election Systems & Software (ES&S), the Nebraska-based voting software and election management company, confirmed the leak on Thursday.
In a blog post, the company said the voter data leak contained names, addresses, birthdates, partial social security numbers and some driver's license and state ID numbers stored in backup files on a server. Authorities alerted ES&S to the leak on Aug. 12, and the data was secured.
A security researcher from UpGuard discovered the breach.

1. We need to work on this - it's deliberate suppression, I am sure .

5. Just remember, there is no record

of who or what you voted for, only whether or not you voted. When you dropped your vote into the ballot box, it became anonymous. All that other information, except for the last 4 SS#s are public record in most states. Where I live (California) most of this info and whether or not you voted is publicly posted right at the polling place. Most people just never realized that. I honestly didn't until I started working at the polling place after I retired.

6. dont do it that way here.

tho any campaign can get it w the phone numbers. i think they have to pay for it, and iirc from campaigns i worked on here, they get it through third party vendors.

7. If there are vendors dealing in it,

to me that pretty much makes it public information.

12. Ohio also makes public whether you voted or not

In any election, we check off people as they come in and this is posted by the door three times a day. It makes it possible for parties to see if they need to call someone, offer them a ride to the polls, etc. Only time I've seen someone check the list was when we were trying to get a school levy thru for the umteenth time. But again, HOW you voted is private and not traced.

8. Democrats hoping for a victory in 2018?

This is just the tip of the vote hacking iceberg that Russia is working on 24/7/365.

Wouldn't be a bad investment to get early odds in Vegas on Republican victory in 2018, and go all in.

SAD!

9. high tech voter disenfranchisement.

vote in dem primaries? your registration might get "lost".

if dems want to ever win again, they have to get ahead of this.

try examining provisional ballots to find out who got blocked and why.

eta- and where.

10. Congress passes laws to ensure a $2 checkstand transaction is secure & auditable.

Yet we have no laws which show the same level of concern for our democracy.
