Ex-Bush ethics lawyer: Trump calling for Clinton to be prosecuted is an impeachable offense

Source: The Hill

Former President George W. Bush's chief ethics lawyer on Tuesday said President Trump calling for Hillary Clinton to be prosecuted is an “impeachable offense.”

“Pressuring [attorney general] to prosecute the person who lost the election is an impeachable offense if we value free elections,” Richard Painter tweeted.

Trump in an early morning tweet Tuesday ramped up his criticism of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, saying Sessions, one of his earliest allies in the 2016 campaign, “has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes.”

The president’s calls for Clinton to be prosecuted contradicts his claim in November that he wouldn’t follow through on a campaign pledge to seek an investigation into the former secretary of State.

1. If his lips or tiny fingers are moving, he's lying!

Everything he says is a lie. He lies about his lies and then lies some more. It's not all he does, he also threatens and demeans and bullies - intermixed with his lies.

2. Trump will say anything right now to take attention away from the problems

of his administration. Not to mention the fact that promises don't mean much to Trump.

3. what bitter irony for the russian-backed republican regime to...

possibly get Cast Into the ShitCan of History by their own, shrunken-soul hatred of Hillary.

Now that would be justice.

5. Interesting point. It's like Blotus is trying everything he can do to get himself impeached...

and virtually not one (R) will even blink.

Since Sessions offered to resign weeks ago, I'm actually kind of impressed (in a way) that he's staying on now. It's sort of a patriotic thing to do, make tRump fire him.

The other odd thing about all this is, even if tRump does find a way to fire Mueller, there are still the Senate and House investigations (however meager they may be); not to mention there is no way Mueller doesn't have a plan B to ensure his work continues if he is actually fired.

The longer this goes on, the worse it will be for Rs. Much as I want this to end ASAP, the whole debacle actually might drain that swamp after all!

6. The '58 horror flick

"The BLOB!" predicted a creature like Trump. Oozing continually as it destroyed everything it touched.

10. I'm getting tired of this guy

For someone who worked for an administration and a man who promoted a war based on lies and the results of that war have been to devastate and dismantle any sense of civil society he should slink away to a hole somewhere never to be heard from again.

Peace

12. Foolishness. Why would you want Painter to stop pointing out tRump's ethics lapses?

Makes zero sense for Democrats to reject Painter now.

15. That's right, but Painter hasn't accomplished anything yet.

He's filed something like 300 ethics complaints, hasn't he? I wish something would work!

13. The irony is that for Painter

and the rest of the Shrub ilk, there was "honor among thieves", and they were all for one and one for all w/Darth and their party.

Under the TFEE, there is no honor and they'll throw each other and the party itself under the bus in a hot minute, and the BFEE realized this early on.

18. If dTrump is able to successfully

prosecute Hillary, I do believe that this nation will never see another peaceful transfer of power - reference a presidential election.
