Delta Air Lines Refunds Ann Coulter $30 After Twitter Complaints

Source: New York Times

The conservative commentator Ann Coulter unleashed a barrage of criticism about Delta Air Lines on Twitter after she was moved to a different seat on a flight on Saturday, prompting the company to publicly return fire and call her comments “unnecessary and unacceptable.”

Ms. Coulter, a pundit known for headline-grabbing comments, began her attack after a flight from La Guardia Airport in New York to West Palm Beach, Fla. In a statement on Sunday, the airline described what happened as a “seat mix-up,” but Ms. Coulter excoriated the airline in social media posts after she was removed from a seat that she said she had specifically booked.

In a statement, repeated on Twitter, the airline criticized Ms. Coulter for “posting derogatory and slanderous comments and photos in social media” about its employees and customers. Delta said it was “disappointed” in Ms. Coulter and called her actions “unnecessary and unacceptable.”

The airline said it would refund her $30 for the preferred seat she bought, adding, “Delta expects mutual civility throughout the entire travel experience.”

11. airlines expect most people to shut-up about canceled flights, hours layovers, surprise! seat change!

In the past couple months several people I know have flown. -every- flight had unexpected delays & cancellations of flight. One guy even got stuck in an airport in china at 1AM. They turn off the lights, locked him out. Told him come back tomorrow.

Travel by airlines takes a full day out of the front & back of any travel these days.

Not just Americas flights, foreign Airlines have major problems too.

12. When you're at the mercy of weather and mechanical breakdowns things happen...

...that cause delays, particularly when connecting flights are coming in from all over the country. Add to that local ordinances and FAA regulations, and delays are inevitable.

Two cases in point:

One - I was waiting for a connecting flight from somewhere (it was 10+ years ago, I forget where) and it was delayed due to weather. When it finally arrived, the pilots were beyond their FAA dictated time on the job for the day, so they had to be replaced. Took a couple of hours to get replacement pilots.

Two - I was waiting in Dallas for a connecting flight to the East Coast. Due to thunderstorms, the flight was delayed. It arrived at about 11:30 PM. By the time it was ready for boarding, it was about ten minutes to midnight. If the plane wasn't backed away from the gate by midnight, it couldn't depart and we all would have had to wait until the next morning to leave. You never saw 150 people move so fast in your life! People were helping each other with their carry-on luggage, helping them to find their seats, etc. Everyone was in their seats by 11:58! Then some asshole businessman got up to get something out of the overhead bin - it was hysterical how EVERYONE yelled at him, cursed him, etc.!!! We wound up getting out on time.
