Australian foreign minister criticizes Trump's remark to French first lady

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on Sunday criticized comments by U.S. President Donald Trump on French first lady Brigitte Macron's appearance.

"You're in such good shape," Trump was filmed on Thursday telling her during his first state visit to France.

"I wonder if she could say the same of him?" Bishop told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, when asked whether she would be flattered or offended if the comment were directed at her.

"I'd be taken aback, I think. It's a rather interesting comment to make," she said.

If it were anyone other than Trump, I don't think it'd get coverage.

1. President Combover Caligula is an international embarrassment

a psychotic perverted pathological liar, a total waste of oxygen and groceries, and hopefully one KFC bucket of extra-crispy away from a Tim Russert-like drop dead f*cking moment that would set off a week of fireworks, partying and downright glee.

2. Correct Doug

If it was Bogan Bob down the road, drunk and mouthing off on a saturday night, it would not get coverage.

Unfortunately, this was the fucking president of the fucking United States. OK, Julie Bishop may be a conservative but she's proven herself a competent foreign minister without a breath of scandal. Same cannot be said of fuckface trump.

3. It would certainly have gotten coverage for any president.

It's inappropriate to comment on someone's body, no matter who does it, but for a head of state to check out a woman's body, then actually comment on it, is really disgusting.

5. In DT's mind, he doesn't get what the problem is.

After all, he didn't call France's First Lady a fat pig. He actually believes that he was being courteous and offering her a compliment. Something you'd say at a country club.

7. Lol. Rather interesting, all right. As for "if anyone other

than Rump," of course if any head of a nation commented on the body of a good -ooking first lady of another it would grab attention. No doubt just not nearly as much since Rump's become daily entertainment for people in more than 150 nations.

8. If it wasnt trump, it really wouldnt be a big deal. I appreciate it when people tell me that.

Especially my doctor!
But with it being trump, a simple compliment takes on a totally different life

9. Seriously? If it were any other person in a similar situation it would be equally shockingly

inappropriate.

Coming out of any other mouth, it would equally show that the person saying it does not respect the woman he is saying it to, on such a public stage and at such a high level of diplomatic interaction.

The fact is, no one besides Trump is stupid enough to be so stunningly disrespectful. It wasn't a "simple compliment."

11. Well, guess we just disagree. I appreciate hearing it. i work at it.

telling someone they're in great shape isnt the same as telling them they have a "great rack".
Matter of fact, just a couple days ago there were stories on Jeff bezos and how "in shape" he was looking. Happens more often in Europe as well; even in headline stories directed at both men and women.
Everyone is just so touchy these days. About everything

12. Inappropriate comment, but then again, considering the

source, par for his course.

The proverbial 'bull in a china shop'.

Waiting, not patiently, for this fiasco to be only a disturbing memory.

10. Its a stunning show of disrespect for the first lady of a major ally. It would have gotten coverage.

Can't believe I have to point that out.
