McCain to miss week, likely delaying healthcare vote

Source: The Hill

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will miss this week's votes in the Senate after undergoing surgery on Saturday, depriving Republicans of a key vote on healthcare.

McCain's absence means Senate Republicans almost certainly will not have the 50 votes they'd need to win a procedural vote.

Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) have already said they would oppose the procedural vote. With all Democrats voting no, that would leave Republicans with just 49 votes, given McCain's absence.

Craniotomy? Pathology report awaiting? This sounds like it could be serious.

5. I wish him and his family well.

...........McCain, 80, had the procedure done at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix following an annual physical.

"Surgeons successfully removed the 5-cm blood clot during a minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision. Tissue pathology reports are pending within the next several days," the statement from the Mayo Clinic read.

“The Senator is resting comfortably at home and is in good condition. His Mayo Clinic doctors report that the surgery went ‘very well’ and he is in good spirits. Once the pathology information is available, further care will be discussed between doctors and the family," the statement said.

the taxpayer funded one......................what exactly is his position, since it's basically a freebie now?

18. Indeed, supreme irony of ironies.

His absence from a vote which will deny healthcare to millions is necessitated by a medical procedure that will be paid for by taxpayer dollars. Perhaps he can reflect during his recovery that millions of people will be denied that same option for treatment of a serious medical condition like his if he votes to allow this abomination to become law. I wish him well and a speedy recovery, but also wish that every American had the same access to health care that he and every other member of Congress and this maladministration receive. No American should have any less health coverage than their elected representatives who work for us, not the other way around.

Slow, but good. May he stay out of the Senate for a while. Then vote no for wealth care.

24. You may be right, but not necessarily. Hypothetically, if McCain was a sure no vote, McConnell

would also delay the vote to buy time to bribe or push pressure on other Senate republicans such as Portman from Ohio, Heller from Nevada, and even Capito from West Virginia, who as far as I understand it have not expressed how they will vote.

Reports have come out that Murkowski is being bribed by McConnell to vote yes.

Rand Paul and Susan Collins who have supposedly said no, but honestly I don't trust either one to honor their word.

At this point I think it is really unknown what will happen, though the odds favor that it will pass, and this should surprise no one.

What did anyone think would happen if trump won?

17. At least his health care will be unquestionably provided at taxpayers

expense (though he could afford it himself under the Affordable Care Act). The best care in the world won't necessarily fix everything, but at least he will never have to worry about obtaining the best health care available, with or without the Affordable Care Act. I'm sure he doesn't have any pre-existing conditions he would have to worry about.

25. Must be nice to have this medical problem discovered....

examined, treated with surgery and the LAST thing on McCain and members of his family minds is HOW this would impact them financially OR how do we ever pay since we have no health insurance.

Rest WELL John, and think of others not so fortunate while your recovering with the best of everything medical.

26. R & R

Senator McCain, who served his country with honor, certainly doesn't want to go back too soon, perhaps to be publicly demeaned once again by the ignoble republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief, Comrade Casino and his submissive followers.

The cowardly words from the republican's gourmet golfing POTRRO* are an insult to all of America's armed forces.
