Alabamas Special Senate Election Is All About Wooing Trump

Source: New York Times

By JONATHAN MARTIN and ALEXANDER BURNS
JULY 9, 2017

WASHINGTON — The special election for a Senate seat in Alabama is, at first glance, a complex affair, with 10 Republican candidates in the party’s primary, at least three of whom could plausibly win, and a possible runoff this fall if nobody can garner a majority when ballots are cast Aug. 15.

But under closer examination, the contest may boil down to a single question: How will President Trump respond to the candidate who denounced him for “serial adultery”?

The campaign for the Senate seat once held by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is ostensibly playing out between Muscle Shoals and Mobile Bay. But the battle is being waged just as fiercely inside the White House, where Mr. Trump’s endorsement could determine who will serve as the state’s junior senator for the next three years.

The Republican race has pitted the current, appointed senator, Luther Strange, against Representative Mo Brooks, a conservative firebrand whose brash, anti-immigrant, pro-gun politics are distinctly Trumpian — save that “serial adultery” jab.

1. One more wild card.

Twice-removed former Chief Justice Roy Moore has been tossed out for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments monument, and then after being re-elected some years later, for directing all the county probate offices to not marry same-sex couples AFTER the Supreme Court decision.

For southern conservatives, Roy Moore is the REAL DEAL. And he ain't from Washington like them other fellers!

There ARE a couple Democrats running. Not a snowball's chance in Alabama!

'10 Commandments' Judge Roy Moore Leading for Sessions' Seat

Roy Moore, the former Alabama chief justice who was twice removed from office over failure to follow federal court rulings, is the lead candidate in internal polling for his state's U.S. Senate seat, Politico Pro reported.

Politico Pro's Daniel Strauss wrote the internal polling of fellow candidate Mo Brooks, currently a member of Congress, shows Moore leading at 31 percent, with current Sen. Luther Strange at second with 23 percent, according to Alabama Today. Brooks comes in third at 21 percent.

Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

Alabama will always have issues...I suspect.

May make republican45 radioactive here in short order.
Manafort and Kushner both tossed DonJr under the bus and backed up for good measure.
It didn't help that Donjr told serious lies and two different stories.
Dear old dad all but said "I have a son?" Stating that despite being in the dark tower and his campaign manager, son and son-in-law setting up a meeting with this Russian to get dirt on "crooked" Hillary, he denies he even knew anything about it.

Collusion has officially been confirmed and the political calculus is going to start soon, even for republicans in red states, national and statewide elections cannot be won without moderates and independents. Closer we get to 2018 the more that reality sinks in for republicans. At the end of the day, most republicans in congress care more about money, power and getting reelected (in that order) than they do about ideology.
