Senate GOP considers deeper Medicaid cuts than House bill

Source: The Hill

A leading option in the Senate's ObamaCare repeal-and-replace debate is to make even deeper cuts to Medicaid spending than the bill passed by the House, according to lobbyists and aides.

The proposal would start out the growth rate for a new cap on Medicaid spending at the same levels as the House bill, but then drop to a lower growth rate that would cut spending more, known as CPI-U, starting in 2025, the sources said.

That proposal has been sent to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for analysis, a Senate GOP aide said.

The aide said that plan has been described as a "consensus option that has been sent to CBO," though no final decision has been made yet. Another aide said there are still other options in the mix.

2. Reminder: there are no such things as moderate Republicans

There are those who pretend to be moderate, but ALWAYS vote with their more honest wingnut colleagues.

12. Yep

If ever there was a time for those so-called "moderates" to live up to that description, it's now.

They won't.

mcturdle won't bring dumpcare to the senate floor unless he knows the fake moderates will fall in line. To their shame.

6. The CBO doesn't approve, it just gives a number.

The Republicans don't care about public approval for their legislation, they know their brain-dead voters will turn out for them no matter what.

This legislation will disproportionately hurt Tr*mp voters, which is a small consolation.

8. Not being a reality based party,

Repugs don't give a shit what the CBO says, they will just demonize it and lie, lie, lie like they always do.

Funny thing, though. At some point, and it will be very quickly, those lies will come home to roost. Unless they think Russia will always steal the elections for them, they will absolutely pay a price for this perfidy.

13. Unfortunately

the pukes are masters at dissociating cause and effect, hiding the negative impacts of their agenda by phasing in cuts gradually or after e.g. multi-year delays. Couple that tactic with the snooze media's failure to follow up on stories or otherwise adequately inform the 'Murican people and you have voters not understanding why their healthcare gets wrecked in stages. Remember, raygun cut social security by raising the retirement age but it didn't kick in for 25 years.

Also, yeah, I think the pukes figure they have 2018 and 2020 wrapped up through election theft--voter suppression, russky assistance, etc. etc. etc.

5. So the GOP has a consensus to kill the poor and working poor.

Good to have that out in the open. They have one idea and it's totally fixed in their heads, how can they maximize the taking of healthcare money from the poor and give it all to themselves and their other rich friends. The poor and working poor, their idea about that was well stated by Alan Grayson, if they get sick (or injured) let them die quickly.

7. Yep, they're very transparent about it.

There are a few who try to pretend that they're not on board with it.

10. Yes, they pretend and talk a decent game prior to the vote.

When it's voting time, however, there are only Repugs and they all vote exactly the same. I've not seen any principled Repugs in years, Collins is a fake and so is Flake, Portman and all the rest. They always vote lock step and I don't expect it to change this time either.

18. From what I understand, this wouldnt just hurt the poor, who Repubs hate

But lots and lots of older folks and rural hospitals and nursing homes.
I am in NY21 with Ryan's handmaiden, Stefanik. We organized a town hall in Feb, which she skipped. No town halls or big meetings, except one phony one with pre-approved audience. Even they gave her a hard time.
I am wondering if she is even going to run in 2018. I have a feeling Ryan wants her to challenge Gillibrand.
