Dem: Congress will begin impeachment if Trump fires Mueller, Rosenstein

Source: The Hill

June 17, 2017
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) said Friday that Congress would come together and “begin impeachment proceedings” against President Trump if he fired special counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

“All Americans, regardless of party, agree on the fundamental principle that no one is above the law,” Lieu said on MSNBC. “And if President Trump were to fire Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, and then [get] special counsel Mueller fired, I believe Congress would begin impeachment proceedings.”

1. I still think there is a good chance he will fire Mueller because he wants to and is

not used to controlling his desires. He also doesn't like to be told no, don't do something.

Americans know there SHOULD BE no one above the law, but we know there are Wall Street bankers who are as untouchable as Dick Cheney and W! TPTB have made it so that their people do not get investigated, indicted or convicted. They are able to keep that from happening. It is only when a powerful person rips off or screws over other powerful people that they go down. Trump has done that in spades!

I heard there is a clause in the appointment that covered this option...it may of been blogged by Seth Abramson

36. Good question. I would think that who ever takes over

would keep the same people for continuity. They are all proven top in their area of expertise.

The only way they would not is if the person to take over was there to kill or whitewash the investigation.

They're afraid trump will have one of his typical crazy Saturday nights & lash out.

2. Trumplethinskin is brazen enough......

to do just that. That he knows the noose is tightening around his neck and the vultures are circling around his carcass of a body.

I say, let him fire Rosenstein and Mueller, and Trump brings down his entire Administration, Pence included. For Pence is protecting and defending Trump, as he knows exactly what is going on.

13. And Ryan will fall as well.....

The residents of Janesville and much of his District cannot stand him. It is the Kenosha area that keeps him in office.

Paul Ryan lacks the will to even be Speaker of The House. He has a caucus that is not united at the moment. Nor has he done much since taking over the gavel.

10. Unfortunately, the key phrase is "I think."

If he knew this DEFINITELY, then it would be a different matter.
In this case "I think" is much like saying "I hope." We all hope this is what would happen.

Seeing is believing. The Republicans always put party before country.

14. It's unfortunate that cowardly Republicans aren't saying this - just Dems.

I think most lawmakers would get on board if Trump crossed this line; I like to have some tiny bit of faith in the basic goodness of people. But there is no guaranty.

Trump might be deterred if he believed this would happen. My hope is that this is being communicated to him privately.

that's the problem with continuing to ignore the right's most important weapon. that's what keeps the base together and the reps in line.

No disrespect intended to Congressman Lieu. We all know that Democrats will do the right thing if this situation transpires. But I have no confidence that all but an insignificant handful of Republicans will follow suit. They value party over country; authoritarianism over democracy.

Now is the time to speak up but none of them are brave enough to do that. I do not have the same level of confidence in this congress that Congressman Lieu has.

25. Trump will fire Mueller

I have little doubt that Trump is going to fire Mueller and then when Rosenstein refuses to fire him, Rosenstein.

What I'm much less certain of is whether Congress will come together to file impeachment proceedings.

I also think that a President Pence could be our worst nightmare. He Is is a full bore crazy Christian Domnionist.

Assuming that Pence isn't pulled down by the same maelstrom of scandals…we could see a huge number bills hitting his desk very quickly. The Republicans know that they have a limited time to wreak destruction on the federal government.

If the paralysis we have going on due to Trump goes away I would be very very afraid.

Firing Mueller is clearly obstruction. I don't know if the GOP House has the courage and integrity to do it, but it would be the appropriate response for sure.

32. Someone should tell Denny Heck (D-WA) because that bozo

just gave the most disheartening interview I've seen. It was posited to him what would happen if Trump had Mueller fired and stated there would be a "constitutional crisis" and that the response would be to create an "independent commission" to investigate which is according to him what should have happened in the first place. He said this would take the issue out of politics. Are you kidding me? Shutting down an investigation being handled by professional prosecutors and handing to over to a bunch of retired Dem and GOP politicians is taking it out of politics? Someone in his district needs to set this guy straight.

39. Nobody's getting impeached. At least, until late Jan 2019

If there are less than two years left in Trump's term, Pence can serve that time, and then run for a "first" term as prez, giving him a possible almost ten years in the White House.

If there's more than two years left in Trump's term when Pence takes over, those two-plus years would count as a first term, so Pence could only run for re-election one time, for a total of six years (and some days) in the White House.

The Repubs will be patient.
