Grassley rankles GOP with new Comey investigation

Source: The Hill

Republicans are wary of Sen. Chuck Grassley's (R-Iowa) decision to launch a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation into the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Grassley, the panel’s chairman, took the step this week partly at the urging of Democrats, but said that it’s his committee’s job to make sure there’s a firewall protecting the FBI from political influence.

“There should be no improper interference with FBI investigations to favor any elected official or candidate of either party,” Grassley wrote in a Wednesday letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.

Grassley’s announcement took his Republican colleagues by surprise, and several said they are uncomfortable with the addition of yet another investigation that could target the Trump administration.

1. Several Repubs are "uncomfortable" about the investigation itself, but apparently not so

apparently not so "uncomfortable" about the obvious fact that their dear leader is corrupt as hell.

Traitors.

2. Wait a minute!

Chuck Grassley wants an investigation into the Comey firing? Grassley, one of the worst ass kissers the Senate? Something's wrong. Maybe he finally figured out that Iowans are poed and want answers. Or maybe he's 80 something years old and no longer cares. Or maybe its just something to make himself look like a "maverick."

7. That IS curious.

Maybe...he is reacting to public criticism that Congress has done nothing about any of Trump's interference with other branches of government or with the Russia investigation.

Or maybe...it's a sign that they aren't Trumpers, any more, seeing him as damaged goods.

Or maybe he really was shocked at the interference with the FBI investigation. That was a historical firing, after all.

Or maybe he's trying to show his constituents that he's doing SOMETHING about the dog and pony chaos in the White House and possible corruption there.

He's also holding up a vote on a Trump nominee, after not getting a response after months of asking for information on the nominee (logical to want to get those answers, after they've seen the quality of other nominees). So maybe he's gotten to the point that he and some others are ticked off.

One thing for sure is that he spoke w/other Republicans about it before doing this, and there was interest. Or he wouldn't have planned this new investigation.

I personally think that Congress is embarrassed by how ineffective and unresponsive they've been about the corruption in the White House, now that they see investigations are being given outside of Congress, due to a lack of faith and trust in Congress to do its job.

10. it is curious. Grassley was just re-elected and at this point he usually coasts

for about 4 years, making an occasional serious sounding utterance about nothing.

to say he is a top repug lap dog is an understatement. So something is up.

14. Yeah, I think he's concerned about his legacy.

I think he knows this is going to tarnish him and his party if they continue to turn a blind eye to the Trump dumpster fire.

5. Dianne Feinstein may well have been influential.

She made bold statements today that cannot be denied. They may want to ignore them however.

9. Is there a ton of

evidence in Feinstien's hands that could wipe out the GOP? Other wise why would Chuckie be concerned.

13. Headline should read"Senile old coot opems a laundromat."

Grassley couldn't find his ass with both hands, letalone run an investigation. It wasn't that long ago he investigated religious hucksters and found them as pure as driven snow. He's actually dumb enough to think hr can wh9tewash these turds away.

19. PEOPLE! He is a Republican, period.

This is not a sudden relapse of conscience. THis is not a dam of disgust breaking. This is nothing more than a defensive move, to write a Republican narrative to counter/cover the asses (asses asses?) of the R's. Nothing to see here.......

20. This has nothing to do with Trump

He'll be Nunez-like in approaching the matter.

This is simply a ploy to allow him to pursue parallel investigations into leaks, Hillary and Obama.

Ever the partisan, Grassley's intentions are not honest here. Mark my words.
