2. Yup

We will have to wait until the inquiry wraps up to find out what occurred.

It is hard to imagine how this happened...

5. Container ships can take MILES to stop. This might simply have been a case of

tonnage has right of way.

16. That is a very congested shipping lane

Think LA freeway type congestion. It was always nerve wracking approaching Tokyo Wan.

I had the same thought, hard to imagine much congestion in the vast ocean, but now I know. Thanks!

It's sitting a good 20 feet lower in the water than it normally does, too.

Me thinks the Naval Skipper fucked up. I hope the crews are alright.

Between the bridge and CIC how they collided in open ocean is beyond me.

22. If they can keep it floating long enough to get it to a friendly shipyard, it can be rebuilt.

They'll often add an upgrade or two.

Hopefully, the ship can be rebuilt.

The news about the possible deaths of some of the crew is not good.

14. You don't want to get hit on the starboard side.

Of course, you don't want to get hit on the port side, either, but you'll get off much easier.

15. No problem, our destroyers only cost like $4,000,000,000 each...Yes, thats BILLION!!!

We need like a 100 more ships (sitting ducks?) anyway...

WTF?

Oh, sorry, thats actually 3.96 billion. My mistake.

I pray for the safety of all our brave sailors aboard.

In W's first year wasn't there also a problem with a US ship and one
from Japan? Some GOP mega donors messing around
with the controls? Some deaths?

The USS Greenville: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehime_Maru_and_USS_Greeneville_collision
A poster above mentioned it.

There are 7 crewmen missing from USS Fitzgerald, the collision reported today. The Fitzgerald collided with ACx (?) Crystal.

The container ship didn't suffer as much damage. The USS Dewey is on the way to help. A U.S. sailor was medivac'd to port.

Guessing the career of the USS Fitzgerald's skipper is in dire straights, on the other hand, sounds like PutinsPuppet has found his perfect Secretary of the Navy pick!
