Republicans shove Chaffetz on his way out

Source: Politico

Senior House Republicans want him to give up the Oversight chairmanship well before he resigns from Congress.

......................Several senior GOP lawmakers are quietly encouraging Chaffetz to step down from his chairmanship soon, even though the Utah Republican doesnít plan to resign from Congress until June 30. While his retirement announcement Thursday said nothing about his future work, Chaffetz has told lawmakers heíll be heading to Fox News.

But GOP insiders say Chaffetz has been reluctant to let go of his panelís leadership before he leaves Congress ó and now heís thrown himself into the thick of the Russia scandal thatís consuming Washington. Itís made for an uncertain transition at the committee and a sore subject for House Republicans.

"If the chairman is on his way out... he should step down and allow the Steering Committee to move immediately to appoint a new chairman," said Rep. Steve Womack, an Arkansas Republican who sits on the Steering panel, which selects committee chairmen. "Sooner, not later."

Critics are grumbling that even as Chaffetz was planning his retirement, he summoned newly-fired FBI Director James Comey to testify before his panel next week. ............................................

.......................

The explosive hearing announcement ó and Chaffetzís threat to subpoena related FBI documents should they refuse to hand them over ó has annoyed a number of GOP lawmakers. ......................

4. Jason is not worried about his standing in the GOP anymore but...

He is worried about team Chaffetz and if he see's an advantage in piling on the Prez before going on TV at Fox he will.

Once GOP team player Gowdy gets in the control of the House Oversight committee he will probably turn to looking at the leaks or steer the committee into a wall..

We are probably going to see the GOP implode this summer I hope everybody has enough popcorn.

5. Chaffetz wants to stay in the eye of the media all the way up to his Fox gig.

Self-promotion, and promotion for his new show.

He probably wants to be the next O'Reilly.

8. Oh, yeah

He already has lots of material that will appeal to the pox noise old white male audience (that's been going through withdrawal no doubt after O'Lielly's sudden departure)--inveighing against the poors buying cell phones instead of health insurance, lots of garbage re Hillary, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

He'll fit right in--it's a match made in heaven!!

7. 2 deplorables called 'leaders'

2 grinning chimpanzees from 'Planet of the Apes' with buffoon chump as head gorilla blustering his way around the world, now.
