Nikki Haley: Western Wall part of Israel, US embassy should be moved to Jerusalem
Source: The Times of Israel
The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said Tuesday that the US embassy should be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, upholding a campaign promise of US President Donald Trump, and that the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem is part of Israeli territory.
Her remarks came amid an ongoing diplomatic spat between the US and Israel over whether the Western Wall is part of Israel or the West Bank as one US consular staffer suggested as well as speculation on whether Trump will fulfill his campaign promise to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem, even as the president has since distanced himself from the move.

In excerpts from an interview with CBN News released on Tuesday, Haley said: Obviously I believe that the capital should be Jerusalem and the embassy should be moved to Jerusalem because if you look at all their government is in Jerusalem. So much of what goes on is in Jerusalem and I think we have to see that for what it is.
Regarding the Western Wall, Haley said: I dont know what the policy of the administration is, but I believe the Western Wall is part of Israel and I think that that is how weve always seen it and thats how we should pursue it
Weve always thought the Western Wall was part of Israel.

(31,947 posts)The embassy should be wherever Israel wants it to be. It is their country. If Israel wants it in Tel Aviv then so be it. If they want it in the Jerusalem area then so be it. Can anyone imagine a country deciding to put an embassy in Chicago when the U.S. wanted it in D.C.?

Inaccurate. It should be where it foments and assists as much good will as possible. Where it "wants" to be is irrelevant at best.
Can anyone imagine a country denying any forethought, foresight or planning into international relations? (Six of one, half a dozen of the other, you see... and each as irrelevant and falsely equivalent as the other)
Though, given your consistent narrative, I can certainly understand why you ignore the directly relevant and focus on the emotional, the unsupported and the irrelevant in this particular case.

(26,060 posts)The Western Wall IS in Israel and will never be anywhere else. On the second point, that's something that needs negotiation - maybe be part of any peace talks. A unilateral decision on that would be very problematic although the fanatics will cause trouble no matter how the decision is made.

There is a reason why Jerusalem was not chosen as the capital.
Those reasons, however inconvenient, still are very real.

(31,947 posts)I have visited Jerusalem several times and it was not in Palestinian held territory. When did this event happen?

(31,947 posts)You know, the maps that don't show any existence of Israel. The capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Their legislature meets there and there prime minister lives there. Whether you like it or not.

a new intifada? every surrounding arab nation that we're allied with having a collective aneurysm?

(31,947 posts)The Arab nations that work with us would do a public protest for their people but would continue to work with us. The ones that hate us would continue to hate us. They don't need any excuses for that.

(31,947 posts)Because clearly you know and they don't. The Knesset meets in Jerusalem and the Prime Minister lives there. You need to tell them they have made a mistake and they don't know where they are at. Tell them to move to your chosen capital, Tel Aviv.

Why wouldn't Jews control their own holy sites like Christians and Muslims do with their important sites?
