Feds Raid Bicycle Casino In Criminal Fraud Investigation

Source: CBS Los Angeles

BELL GARDENS (CBSLA.com) Federal agents Tuesday shut down the Bicycle Hotel and Casino in Bell Gardens as part of a criminal fraud investigation, authorities said.

Authorities with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) confirmed the raid, but would not comment on the scope or nature of the investigation.

The raid was a part of a criminal fraud investigation, according to KNX 1070s Pete Demetriou.

It's been there a long time. Wonder what"s up. One thing's for sure, that casino did nothing to remedy the poverty of the surrounding community. I'm guessing it was all a scam from day 1.

Is there something I'm missing, like a connection to Trump or the Russians, or the fact that our country is in the worst constitutional crisis of our history?

MANN Act requires 60 day notice when 200 ppl or more are put out of work....

Does fed raid take paramount? Or will the 1000 employee's have a senior priority claim over monies seized by feds.

Are janitors and maintance workers consider to be a part of the "enterprise"

In 1990, it was seized as part of the drug smuggling ring operated by Sam Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was also known around town as the top UCLA basketball booster during the John Wooden hey day.

Gilbert's influence ultimately helped land UCLA basketball on NCAA probation. In December 1981, UCLA was cited for nine infractions and received two years' probation, which included a one-year NCAA tournament ban and an order to vacate its 1980 NCAA national title game appearance against Louisville.

The most serious allegation levied against Gilbert was that he co-signed a promissory note so a player could buy a car. The NCAA ordered UCLA to disassociate Gilbert from its recruiting process.

Larry Brown was UCLA's basketball coach in 1980. None of the violations were tied to Wooden's era, although it's understood Wooden often turned a blind eye.
