Secretary of Homeland Security found out about President Trump's Muslim travel ban by watching TV

Source: The Independent

He was getting his first briefing on the executive order when he discovered it was already being signed

Donald Trump acted so swiftly on closing US borders to refugees and people from seven Muslim-majority countries that his new Secretary of Homeland Security, John F. Kelly, found out about it from broadcast news.

Flying back to Washington from Miami, Kelly was given his first briefing on Trumps plan, which would ultimately lead to pandemonium and protests at US airports.

The New York Times reports:

'Halfway into the briefing, someone on the call looked up at a television in his office. The president is signing the executive order that were discussing, the official said, stunned.'

Trump probably found out that he was signing this Executive Order in a similar fashion.

took the job, he knew that he was becoming Secretary-in-Title-only (SITO). If he can't man-up, then he should suffer in silence and tell his staff to do the same. He could save some dignity by telling Trump the magic words: "I resign immediately." It is past the time for him to fall in line. He deserves all the indignities that Trump, Bannon and Conway heap on him because he is just a simple tool who had a higher opinion of himself.

I suspect most of Trump's appointees are going to be treated in a similar fashion. If he wanted their opinion, he'd give it to them.
