Merkel 'explains' Geneva refugee convention to Trump in phone call
Source: The Guardian
Donald Trump’s executive order to halt travel from seven Muslim-majority countries – Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia – has provoked a wave of concern and condemnation from international leaders and politicians. A spokesman for Angela Merkel said the German chancellor regretted Trump’s decision to ban citizens of certain countries from entering the US, adding that she had “explained” the obligations of the Geneva refugee convention to the new president in a phone call on Saturday. “The chancellor regrets the US government’s entry ban against refugees and the citizens of certain countries,” Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement.“She is convinced that the necessary, decisive battle against terrorism does not justify a general suspicion against people of a certain origin or a certain religion. “The Geneva refugee convention requires the international community to take in war refugees on humanitarian grounds. All signatory states are obligated to do. The German government explained this policy in their call yesterday.” Read more: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/29/merkel-explains-geneva-refugee-convention-to-trump-in-phone-call?CMP=share_btn_tw God, how embarrassin

16. Just keeping my fingers crossed
that Merkel prevails in the German elections later this year. Another right-wing government being installed in Europe, particularly in the most powerful and economically robust nation in the union, would be a real setback.

4. Angela, we love you
You may not always agree with her, I recall a lot of protest over
German Central Bank policies re: southern Europe in lending, but she has always stood for middle of the road stability and common sense government. This is no exception. She's been a rock, and now perhaps among the last pillars of freedom. |

5. A waste of her breath.
The baby in the WH lacks the intelligence, empathy, and compassion needed to understand the complexities of international policies and politics.

6. Tend to agree.
Merkel is the only one holding the EU together at this Point. Trump has zero understanding of anything complex. He has through his life used his Lawyers and accountants to do his bidding. Now that he has to operate outside of his little bubble,he has exposed his multitudes of deficiencies. Only personal skill set he has is his bulling of people until he gets his way. As far as Negotiating skills, his trump card is and has always been his Lawyer's threat of suit.
On the world stage,he will flop like a big beached whale. And that will cause our Nation to fail as the Leader for Freedom and Human Rights. |

7. Trump is handing over the mantle of
"Leader of the Free World" to the EU or more likely Germany. Before he's done he'll turn America into a third world nation. So much for "Making America Great..."

9. Remember, the GOP has always wanted
our Nation to be the Utopian Nation of Ayn Rand. They have achieved step one and that is purging their party of any true Republicans only to be replaced with Ultra Conservative People in the mold of Ezra Taft Benson. Step two is control of all three branches of Government, well that they just did. Step three is to restrict the populace voting rights, rights of free assembly(protest),financial and monetary controls, elimination of all and any Governmental entitlements except for Business and Industry. All human needs to be met by States and Counties.
Bet the farm on this. |

10. That assumes America can exist in a bubble
Uneffected by world trade and world events. More likely - given human faults and frailties - is a massive recession or depression then will put this nation far behind Europe and Asia.
The Ayn Rand fantasies are great but it's important to remember than in reality her little bad of merry makers collapsed and she ended her life destitute and alone. The problem with most utopian fantasies is they fail to recognize the defects that lie inside us all. |

11. Not everone knows the true
ending story. Ironic how she needed Governmental help to survive in her later years of life.
The key is the Media,or as some call the Paid Propaganda Organ, are they going to give up their Fourth Estate privilege or are their joining in with the Cabal. Yes,Germany will and is the Economic Glue that binds Eourpe. That is not going to change anytime soon. |

If the press decides to join the cabal - the people will suffer. Luckily - this WH seems to be heading down the path of the Nixon WH. I hope that trend continues!

14. This is not going to end well.
The only winners will be the 1%ers who could give a shit less, they have enough reserves to ride out the storm,it's the suffering of the bottom 40+ percentile that will pay the ultimate price.
