Firefighters are still struggling to contain a sprawling Placer County wildfire that destroyed one home and threatens another 170.
The Robbers Fire has burned 2,500 acres of forestland since it began at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Shirttail Canyon between Colfax and Foresthill, about 40 miles northeast of Auburn, said Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant. The fire is just 30 percent contained.
Steep terrain, high temperatures and windy weather have made it tough for firefighters to surround the fire. While temperatures fell over the weekend, the wind picked up and fanned the flames, Berlant said.

(16,327 posts)and the basin was cloaked in smoke from the fire. Years of drought and pine beetle infestation has made for prime wildfire conditions. That area is very tough terrain to fight a fire on the ground -- water drops are about the only thing that will make a real dent. Fires are great for the land, not so great for houses.

My thoughts are with all those affected.
