Twitter suspends alt-right figureheads

Source: BBC

Twitter has suspended the accounts of several members of the American alt-right movement, including the leader of a white nationalist think tank.

The social network has not given an explanation for its actions.

But they come the same week it announced new ways for users to complain about hateful content.

Some alt-right figures have suggested a switch to Gab, an alternative micro-blogging service that promises "free speech for everyone".

But other have their doubts.

"Gab just seems like a pointless echo chamber, there are enough alt-right blogs and forums," wrote one supporter of the movement in a discussion thread about the Twitter suspensions.

I really don't like censorship. It's better to let their idiocy stand for all to see and combat it with the truth. Our main problem is we didn't combat their nonsense with enough vigor, mistakenly believing that no sane person would believe it. By shutting them down we turn them into martyrs. I'm not sure this is productive.

like a ex frat boy, speaks in dulcet tones, NPI faces up so non threatening. He and Bannon et al are now exposing MILLIONS of new whites to hardcore racialist thought with the official stamp and full gravitas of the office of the President of the United States reinforcing, normalising and legitimising it.

Terrifying.
