VP Candidate Mike Pence's Campaign Plane Slides off Runway at LaGuardia: NBC News
Source: NBCNews
Vice presidential candidate Mike Pence's campaign plane slid off the runway after landing at LaGuardia Airport Thursday evening, NBC News reports.
The governor was checked to make sure he was OK, according to an NBC campaign embed. Emergency crews were on site but all passengers on the plane were said to be OK, including Pence.
The plane, which was coming from Fort Dodge, Iowa -- about a three-hour flight from New York -- made a rough impact when it landed. The pilot slammed on the brakes and travelers could smell burning rubber.
Pence says mud splashed on the front windows of the cockpit.

Live video from the scene shows a steady rain. Saw Pence walking outside the aircraft via live MSNBC shot.

(2,795 posts)Maybe the pilot only learned by playing flight simulator.

(11,419 posts)Vincent Caldera, the pilot who flies Donald Trump running mate Mike Pence around from one campaign stop to the next, is currently being sought by the authorities so they can deliver the paperwork in filing charges against him. Hes accused of purposely running over his coworker with a car and then backing up and running him over twice more, and in a separate instance hes accused of purposely running into a woman with his motorcycle.
In a third incident reported earlier by Daily News Bin, the Donald Trump campaign has fired North Carolina Campaign Director Earl Phillip after he allegedly pulled a gun on one of his fellow staffers. But the firing didn't take place until months after the colleague had filed a complaint, and only after he finally filed a lawsuit over the matter. In yet another incident, a former Trump campaign director in Mississippi was arrested after threateningly swinging an axe in public.
Maybe they hired someone in a hurry who wasn't that experienced ?

(5,902 posts)I'll never forget the day after the 1992 Democratic Convention. Bill Clinton and Al Gore were photographed helping push the Democratic bus out of a mud patch (and successfully); while Poppy Bush slipped and fell while walking down from a stage.
That's when I knew Clinton would win.

(36,879 posts)IIRC, I think his campaign plane is some variant of a 737, almost certainly leased or owned by Trump and leased to his campaign.

Glad everyone's okay according to reports so far.

(2,479 posts)Not the toughest airport, by a long shot. But super busy, so that could be a factor.Smallish, outdated airport, I think runways have been extended into the water, can flood sometimes because it is barely above sea level. And, as I said, super congested. Twenty minutes from Manhattan, as opposed to close to an hour for JFK and Newark.

(18,470 posts)Can't say much about the facilities but it is close to Manhattan, instead of JFK where it just about takes forever to get there.

(18,470 posts)And no, I'm not holding my breath that they're going to modernize it, even after Joe Biden compared it to a third world country's airport.

Less than a year later, the plane crashed in Reno, Nevada, killing all but one person onboard.
