Despite plea for leniency, Kane gets 10 to 23 months in prison

Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane was sentenced Monday to 10-23 months in prison for perjury obstruction and other crimes.

During a nearly daylong hearing, a tearful Kane apologized to the state of Pennsylvania and begged a judge to impose a sentence that would show mercy not on her, but on her teenage sons.

"I would cut off my right arm if they were separated from me and I from them," Kane told Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy. "Please sentence me and not them."

But Kane did not directly apologize for her crimes but rather for the consequences of her actions, saying she never intended to hurt anyone and feels sorry if Pennsylvanians have lost their sense of trust in the attorney general's office.

I supported her and believed her throughout

but her defense in court was poor, don't think she ever
testified or mounted a defense

She did some good things as AG, but there was a parallel self
that failed miserably. It was like she ran a public office and a
private one as well

Yes, it is, but we are dealing with humans - and humans do what humans do, regardless of political affiliation. And whether it's Dem, Repub, Ind, etc - if it is wrong - they pay!

I'm in PA. I voted for her. I hate the games the pols play here in this state. But she deserves to be locked up - she KNEW better, but still, she sold out for "what the f**k were you thinking?"

5. I hope she is allowed to serve her sentence in a prison near her home. Her children need to see her

as often as possible.

I also hope that Pennsylvania allows daily visits for the children of their inmates.

7. I would say the same thing about all inmates.

If they have young children then the kids should be allowed to visit them daily. And every effort should be made to keep them in a prison close to their home.

The punishment for a crime is imprisonment. People who are incarcerated are receiving that punishment. But the suffering of their minor children should be minimized as much as possible.

I mean, like in, "don't do to others what you would not want others to do to you?"

To honest people abiding to all laws, it's kind of like a line in the sand.

10. That's what the prison sentence is for.

It is a difficult punishment, regardless of visitation schedule.

I don't think the children should be punished any more than they already are. It is not unreasonable IMO to suggest that they be allowed to visit their mom or dad as often as possible.

8. Ridiculous

I'll point out that the ENTIRE Sandusky grand jury report, same secrecy rules apply, was posted on the AG's website by acting AG Linda Kelly (after Corbett was elected gov) and stayed there for nearly a day with never a peep, a charge or any sort of condemation. And Kelley's excuse? "Ooops".

It's an abomination that the names of the "porn mail" senders and receivers have never, except for the few public officials who had to resign, been made public. The people of this Commonwealth have a right to know who among our state troopers, judges and prosecutors thought it was a-ok to send this kind of stuff around. Maybe email isn't a 10 on the Trump Grope scale, but it shows the same racist and misogynistic mindset. These folks should not continue to hold jobs underwritten by our taxdollars.

if the emails were just the tip of the iceberg. The Philly burbs powers that be sure
closed ranks fast. Like everywhere, judicial occupations are multi-generational,
connections intertwined. Lots of obscure vested interests.

Kane actually commissioned an independent report on the emails. Bruce Castor, former MontCo DA and hired by Kane as her last deputy, was set to release the report after she resigned, but the state police union, iirc, objected and we've heard neither hide nor hair about it since then. The senders and recipients wanted a chance to see if their names were on the report and, if so, then they wanted a chance to explain themselves. The report will probably never see the light of day and if it does, my bet is that most of the names will be redacted.

...out for good behavior. That sort of thing. I do feel sorry for the kids.
