Crowd hurls slurs at all-black youth football team as some players kneel during anthem, coach says

Source: WaPo

Youth football coach Marcus Burkley knew there would be backlash if his players knelt during the national anthem. He just never thought it would be this severe.

When three members of Burkley’s all-black team took a knee during a Saturday night game in Bethel Park, Pa., people in the stands began shouting racial slurs at them, eventually becoming so aggressive that police were called to keep the peace, he said.

“Once they took a knee, you see cameras and people taking pictures,” Burkley, who is also African American, told WPXI. “And out of nowhere you just hear, ‘If the little n-word want to take a knee, they shouldn’t be able to play.’”

As the game proceeded, Burkley said, some of his 12- and 13-year-old players told him they heard the same thing on the field from the opposing team. He said neither he nor his Woodland Hills Wolverines had encountered anything like it in the two years they have played in the league.

Speechless. Literally speechless. Trump has made bigotry, sexism, racism and xenophobia mainstream.

Why should they feel respect for a country that treats them like this?

athlete refuse to sign letters of intent to go to any college in a state that would require your family members to jump through hoops to attain a voters ID card or the like. All those gomers and goobers in the south would demand changes in the law of their lawmakers so they could continue to have the very best teams in the country.

Bethel Park & Penn Hills are Pittsburgh suburbs, as is the Cornell School District. Two weeks ago the Cornell cheerleaders knelt during he anthem. The people who got pissed off about this identified themselves as military veterans. The vets, said they were disrespected by the cheerleaders actions.

The flag is the identifier of the United States as a whole not just the military. I try to think how my late father a Marine Corps veteran with 15 years service would have felt about those kneeling during the anthem. I think my father would not have liked it, but he would have said it's their right. He would also have been pissed about the treatment of these kids by the opposing team and its fans.

but in a civilized society your feelings of disrespect should not turn into hatred.

Where are you going, what are you saying. You were the OP.

get the n-bomb off the field. . .you can't get that offended.

If you are so offended by others protesting (which is protected speech), don't leave the house, watch Fox News and jack off to Limbaugh.

Not directed at you. . .more like a general you. These 12 year old kids don't deserve to be called an n-bomb just like I didn't deserve to be called a kike, yid, heb and Jew bastard when I stopped standing for the pledge at the same age.

Eff them. These kids are doing nothing wrong - in fact I admire them for standing up for what they believe in without getting violent.
