Matthew Pounding South Carolina, Flooding Streets, Leaving Roads Impassable

Hurricane Matthew began its strike on South Carolina early Saturday morning, leaving a major highway and multiple roads impassable in Charleston.
Both directions of Interstate 95 were rendered impassible in South Carolina due to floodwaters and other obstructions, reports The Associated Press.
According to a Department of Transportation news release, fallen trees and power lines were blocking I-95 at the Georgia-South Carolina state line.
According to the City of Charleston GIS, flooding closed several roadways, with closures ranging from full closures to lanes partially blocked.

(9,766 posts)Not the wind. The impacts from the surge and rain have been the concern for points north of Florida for some time now. That threat will not diminish no matter how much it weakens.
Not to mention tornados. Wilmington has had 5 in the last 3 hours.

(14,337 posts)A lot of marshy land along I-95. We drive up from Florida to NY several times a years. Yes, I can definitely see why hurricane/tropical storm rains and winds could cause major flooding there along I-95.
