Is no one watching the Olympics?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by uppityperson (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: NBC TV on now

I was thinking some people might laugh at the two Brazilian men who were crying like little girls when they shocked everyone by winning a silver and bronze in the gymnast competition, but I couldn't laugh because I was about to tear up watching their pure joy.

Makes you understand the real essence of sports as opposed to the million dollar prima donnas we are used to watching on TV.

1. Nope.

If I wanted to see a smelly green pool, I'd walk over to the local Y.

2. I have been, but had to tune into the Walking Dead Seson 7 preview/Talking Dead show

there be a major cliff hanger (for the uninitiated) from season 6 and we all have to tune in for "therapy" to face a loss of a beloved character, as yet unknown. LOL

3. I rarely watch any sports,

I'm not really that into basketball, football etc. I wish I were, it does seem to be the most common ground people have. I have had the TV by my desk on the Olympics this week instead of the corporate "news" channels.

Anyway, this point you made:

"...watching their pure joy.

Makes you understand the real essence of sports as opposed to the million dollar prima donnas we are used to watching on TV."

I think that may be the reason. It's not the commercialized crap which professional sports is. Until reading that, I didn't realize that was the appeal to me, but I think it is a good part of it.

12. Irony of your post and screen name

I agree "bigly" with your post, but Fox Sports is pretty good. They should stick to sports and maybe the weather forecast.

4. nope....

The new season of Ripper Street started and I am watching the three programs I taped. I have watched most of the Olympics but after awhile it became boring.

5. Not much, because of NBC's mawkish, wretched coverage.

I've come to expect that of them.

I've probably seen an hour or less in the last week. I'm not going to sit through an interview of Michael Phelps's third grade teacher to see an event.

If I lived near the Canadian border, I'd have a 10-meter dish, and I'd pick the signal off the CBC satellite.

11. I've been watching the Olympics all week long

Just saw Switzerland get their first-ever medal in women's vault. Cheers to Simone Biles, my fellow Texan.

Wish I could see more of the North Korean athletes, just out of curiosity. The only one I saw was one of their table tennis pros squaring off against one of China's best. I think the DPRK competitor lost, but she made her Chinese opponent work for it. They don't play table tennis like you and I might - I think they try to fuse their minds with the ball before every serve. Fascinating.

And kudos to Fiji for winning the gold medal in rugby! Ain't that somethin'!

14. Not since the 80s

when it featured true amateurs and wasn't the commercial-fest it is today.
