Donald botched his vice-presidential selection process, publicly humiliating Chris Christie, Newt Gingrich and Mike Pence (the man he eventually chose to be his running mate). In contrast, Hillary did it like a president.

Ya think we'd be talking Civil rights or healthcare now without "ORDINARY"/non-ULTRA-liberals?

As a black man that grew up thru the 60's/70's, we have grown leaps in bounds IMO... On all SOCIAL issues..

to start dividing Democrats into categories and being dismissive of those who aren't happy with the VP choice.

I'm sure I will grow to like Kaine, but I really wanted to see the excitement and energy that would come with a pick like Warren. I thought it would bring the party together, though the disaster that is Trump is very likely do that. It just won't be nearly as inspiring.

The VP does not set the agenda. The president does.

So according to you unless she picks a VP whose history is totally aligned with the platform she is double dealing? Laughable.

He is a good man and a great Democrat. And has done more for the party than almost any other democrat.

And leaving Brown and Warren in the Senate she has assured that once we take the Senate back it pushes to the left.

Not looking for a "thrill ride" but I was hoping for someone that was not working with republicans to subvert consumer protections and ease banking regulations on large banks and wasn't in support of TPP.

I'm not arguing against him as a pick, I see several advantages, I just hope Clinton tempers his efforts and he thinks more of the middle class and poor before he acts.

39. OK, that's it. I've freaking had it!

I was and am a proud Bernie Sanders supporter. I voted for him in the primary. I phone banked for him, I worked GOTV for him. And I said from the very first that as a Bernie supporter I would vote for the Democratic nominee and every other Democrat running for office on the ballot I was handed come election day. Just because my candidate didn't win doesn't mean I'm sitting out the election, voting for Trump, or Libertarian, or anything else. This is a democracy. I can support a candidate who doesn't win and not pick up my marbles and throw a temper tantrum.

I would have loved to see Bernie as VP pick. Or Elizabeth Warren. Or Eric Garcetti (yeah, go Google him). But we got Kaine. So I'll take a deep breath and work my ass off for Hillary-Kaine. So STFU about the 'Bernie Bots' not voting, or voting for Trump, or any other shit. We bleed just as blue as you do!

He's a good man. And he's more liberal than folks on this board seem to think. He speaks fluent Spanish, He seems to me like the kind of guy who is (right now, in the Senate) and who will continue to be in the White House, a thoughtful and constructive and useful and knowledgeable colleague.
Most importantly, he has the experience and character to step into the presidency if necessary.

50. Great choice

Solid Democratic credentials, a record of results, he knows how to beat Republicans, he's a positive person and he looks to be a good partner for a Madam President Clinton.

Also, a Democratic governor will pick his replacement and it makes the chances of putting Virginia in the blue column that much closer.

67. Good choice

As Sarah Palin once asked, "What does the Vice President do all day?"

Well Sarah, the VP usually acts as an adviser to the president. Kaine has plenty of experience as a governor and senator, so he would give Hillary some great advice on what policies to implement. Plus, as a senator, he will have some pull as the president of the Senate.

Plus, the VP has to be someone who could immediately take over if, God forbid, something happens to the president. He/She would have to have the managerial skills to calm the nation during such a crisis.

Kaine can do that. Plus, he could hopefully make Virginia go blue in the EC. All in all, not the most exciting pick, but certainly a practical one.

I just hope its not a one term presidency. I have to be honest, Elizabeth Warren should have realized like Obama realized as a first term Senator, that it was her time. The liberal base pleaded with her with to run. I don't know why she would be willing to be Clinton's VP, but not run for President herself. I think in 8 yrs she may have very well missed her opportunity to be President. And I have to be honest, I'm just disappointed with this ticket, and I really like Kaine.

130. IMO, the real crisis or the Democratic Party will be AFTER the election

A whole lot of Bernie-supporters are going to be giving Hillary our votes, based on trust,
good faith in her Progressive "promises", and especially, fear of Trump.

If she breaks her promises and just goes neoliberal after getting elected (and especially if she
goes hyper-aggressive, a la neocon, with Russia), I predict the Progressive section of
the Party (40 to 45% of Dem voters, and growing), will leave the party.

It's all up to Hillary, IMO.

What's your take on this?

109. I will vote for Hillary, but

I hope she realizes that she just made that job harder by slapping many of the people who came to her table in the face. We talked down the "Bernie or Bust" types, the "Why not vote Trump" types, and what do we get, someone who was anti abortion and anti lgbt until he realized he had to change his mind to keep his job, and is still very pro wall street. Add to this that there were people who could have continued the legacy of Obama in a way that Tim Kaine, with all the best of intentions, could never do.

I just hope that Hillary realizes we have not forgotten the I.O.U she owes the left, and that the interest has been compiling ever since she became secretary of state. I figure it will start to be paid once the GOP starts trying to have her burnt at the stake, then we will go from being the ugly stepchildren to her faves, much like her hubby needed us to save him from the intern with the cigar.

Oh fear not purity police, we know, indeed, possibly better than many self styled "new democrats" why Trump needs to LOSE, we will be the ones calling the phones, knocking at doors, and making coffee for the HQ while you preen and pose. Don't worry, we won;t stick around for the victory champagne, because we know that you will have slipped something in as revenge against anyone you did not like. But we know that sooner or later, Hillary will realize who she needs and who she like are not the same people. When that day comes, you may not like it, but the nation and world will.

Vote Hillary 2016.

We would have been so much better off with Vilsack.

I can't even see him properly defending her in a debate. He will just give a personal statement about how he trusts her and thinks other people should to. It isn't his style to forcefully and persuasively rebuke the specific lies that they will be telling about her.

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama pushed heavily for Kaine. She never should have listened to them.

135. It's a bit patronizing to

insinuate that Hillary made her choice based on what two men told her to do. I don't believe that you really meant to do that.

Kaine was not among my top five preferences. But Vilsack wasn't even in the top ten. Kaine brings a LOT of "major" experience pluses to the party, which I already knew. Vilsack - good guy as he is - simply doesn't bring as many.

But what I didn't know about Kaine - and what I have had a crash course in learning since this choice was made - is that he has several "minor" experience pluses that show me exactly what kind of a person he is and it is those that make me understand why Hillary selected him. They include: fluent speaker of Spanish; a year abroad in Honduras working in a way similar to that of a Peace Corps Volunteer; staunch opposition to the gun lobby; supporter of women's reproductive rights despite being a Catholic ... and the list goes on and on.

Kaine is a stellar pick. We Dems are fortunate in that we have MANY candidates who would also have been stellar picks. Certainly some of us are slightly disappointed that they were not chosen.

But Hillary is the Candidate. She obviously believes that Tim Kaine is her best running mate. I respect her decision and will support the Clinton-Kaine ticket - and enthusiastically - in every possible way that I can!

140. Who is this guy ‘Kaine’ anyway

Who is this guy ‘Kaine’ anyway

After watching Trump on free air television, and suffering through digital pixilation that interrupted some parts of the speech, all motivated my impressions.

Incredibly after seemly very good presentations by his sons and daughter, and even the Vice President pick, Pence, made me wonder how they could ever embellish their candidate this man their father to transform his innate fashion in turning America a wrong way.

Those introductions masked out making the addition about inbox secure to the - xbox - battle of terror features battlefield 4. Or, we need the cartoon round up to help America understand Trumps mind is a play station.

The reality of getting advice from the seventh generation the Game Pop android, Trump, of the now conservative neo-unnatural world order. The ideal that it’s all Hillary’s fault, yet plays the old time popular song

"Skip to My Lou" is a popular children's song. Skip to My Lou was a popular American partner-stealing dance from the 1840s.

So Pence gives balance to smother or suffocate stupid Trump remarks should be very different from Kaine to extend the honor and commitment of the natural growth that is instilled in America rather then that demand of the “NOW CHANGE”.

Yet the Republican Bush Administration cannot steal away that ideal, “The Great Recession” was related to the financial crisis of 2007–08 and U.S. subprime mortgage crisis of 2007–09 and war profiteering that is protracted into years or decades of transform that will be difficult to untangle socially and economically. Hillary did not do all of that, good old George W did it.

If anyone needs to go to jail it is the Bush administration for intentional deception with intelligence that induced Hillary and others to vote for the Iraq war.

From my view all America got was a four trillion dollar water fountain at ground zero. With that’s said, it is a sweet profit blended with war profiteering and torture Cheney style in this breaking news era of “the mainstream gang bang media” profits driven by commercial revenue supported through bailout calculus.

Kaine speaking Spanish is an asset that can be protracted into the new Mexican American alien wall of understanding 
