Ted Cruz Booed for Failing to Endorse Donald Trump, Says "Vote your conscience"

Source: ABC News

Donald Trump's former rival Sen. Ted Cruz was roundly booed after failing to endorse Trump during an address to the Republican National Convention.

Cruz told voters to "vote your conscience" in November and never specifically said that people should vote for the Republican nominee.

"To those listening, please, don’t stay home in November. If you love our country, and love your children as much as I know you do, stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution," Cruz said.

As he continued speaking, and the crowd began to realize that an endorsement seemed less likely, the cheers that marked the early part of the speech became boos.

If he wasn't planning on endorsing trump, then he should have never attended the Convention or been a speaker, like others.

The good news from his stupid action is he probably just destroyed any political ambitions he may have had.

Why should a person who doesn't support a specific party's nominee attend a convention for that nominee?

53. Unfortunately, Coming From Cruz, It Was Pure Opportunism

It was like Cruz's "filibuster." If you are not going to endorse Trump, then do not attend the convention. Instead, Cruz decided to make it all about himself, which I am happy for in this context.

But that was not bravery. That was pure ego. Trump and Cruz deserve each other.

64. He's looking to 2020

I totally agree - this theocratic nutjob, saw this as an opportunity to set a foundation for his run at the presidency in 2020 (as well as getting back at dumpster trump, on a personal, vendetta level). Cruz is a conniving, intelligent crazy - in the vein of mccarthy and his side kick, roy cohn - who spoke to the divested republicans and the religious right, who for obvious reasons, cannot align their belief system to this charlatan from NY. HATE - unadulterated hate for Hilary Clinton (these people get apoplectic at the mere mention of her name; get a gip) is the only thing I can discern, that binds the republican party (at least at the convention) together, in this years election cycle. And just as the hate rhetoric will continue to rear its ugly influences from the right, Cruz will undoubtedly sustain the sad/pathetic legacy from this years republican convention four years from now.

BTW, on a slightly different note:

Many know of Wayne Barrett's great treatise on Donald Trump and his father, but if you have some time - and haven't seen it already - you need to check out the great anecdotes that Barrett reveals to Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez's from their awesome interview on Democracy Now, about NY politics, corruption, cohn, as well as the Trumps; funny and informative:

than the way that Trump and the GOP are portraying it.

Cruz told Trump in advance that he wouldn't endorse him. Trump told him that he wanted him to come anyway and to speak. Trump's people saw the speech in advance. They knew exactly what was going to happen.

It appears that Trump had his whip organization on the floor of the Convention prompting the delegates to boo him. And it appears that the whole thing was pre-orchestrated and played out exactly the way that Donald intended it to.

If those weren't the details then I would agree with you that Ted should have just stayed home like Kasich did.
