Liberals ready assault on abortion laws after Supreme Court verdict
Source: The Hill
Abortion rights groups are gearing up for a major assault against dozens and ultimately hundreds of state laws after their biggest legal victory in a generation this week.
Lawyers for groups such as Planned Parenthood say the Supreme Courts historic ruling Monday is opening a new front in the decades-old war over abortion access.
Weve reached a tipping point, Helene Krasnoff, senior director of public policy litigation and law at the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, told reporters Thursday as she announced a legal campaign in eight states.
In its 5-3 decision, the court not only struck down two major provisions in Texas, but also set a legal precedent that will likely make it tougher for states to defend existing anti-abortion laws.

(16,199 posts)figuratively, not literally. But I do want to see them weep as their nasty burdensome laws are smashed down. Faith is a personal choice and has no proper role in the law books - though I note that Christianity says NOTHING about abortion.

(2,586 posts)under the requirements of these bogus laws that have succeeded in their aim of causing enormous damage to abortion access across much of the country.
As usual, the RW gets to keep the gains of their wrongdoing, w/o having to make good (even if held accountable to the degree in this case, which is exceptional)

(11,175 posts)I haven't read the SCOTUS decision but it's hard for me to imagine that any kind of ruling about a constitutional right to an abortion would carry with it an obligation for the government to appropriate funds to pay for it. The usual principle is that, when it comes to deciding how to spend money, the government has more latitude than when it's deciding what private conduct to prohibit.
The attack on the Hyde Amendment should come through the political process. Some progressives tend to rely too much on litigation. The courts aren't there to redress every grievance. Frankfurter said something like "Much that is constitutional should offend the conscience of a free society."
