Warren: Trump was ‘drooling’ over housing crash

By Mark Hensch

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Tuesday said Donald Trump eagerly sought profits from the 2008 housing market crash.

“Donald Trump was drooling over the idea of a housing meltdown – because it meant he could buy up a bunch more property on the cheap,” she said, according to The Washington Post.

“What kind of a man does that?” Warren asked at the Center for Popular Democracy's annual gala in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night. "Root for people to get thrown out on the street? Root for people to lose their jobs? Root for people to lose their pensions?”

Warren also criticized Trump’s position on Dodd-Frank financial regulations, adding that the billionaire does not understand their importance.

“Donald Trump is worried about helping poor little Wall Street?” she asked. "Let me find the world’s smallest violin to play a sad, sad song.

“Can Donald Trump even name three things that Dodd-Frank does?” Warren asked of the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee. "Seriously, someone should ask him.”

"Let me find the world’s smallest violin to play a sad, sad song. “Can Donald Trump even name three things that Dodd-Frank does?” Warren asked of the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee. "Seriously, someone should ask him.” Warren’s remarks follow Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton attacking Trump over the 2008 housing bust earlier Tuesday. “He actually said he was hoping for the crash that caused hard-working families in California and across America to lose their jobs,” she said during a campaign rally outside Los Angeles. "All because he thought he could take advantage of it to make some money for himself.” Reports emerged late last week that Trump expressed his desire for a market crash two years before the housing bubble burst in 2008............

Warren is egging on the media to do its job. Trump is clueless--he is up against 2 strong women who know what they are talking about.

8. You bet she will!

After what she and President Obama accomplished slapping back the financial sector, the Republicans hated her so much they told everyone she would never have a position approved by Congress in the Obama Administration.

So she went and took a Republican senator's seat!

Can you imagine what she could do as 'President of the Senate'?

40. Not a damn thing.

Can you imagine what she could do as 'President of the Senate'?

Not a damn thing. Under the Constitution the President of the Senate does NOTHING except preside over proceedings. Can't speak and can't vote unless there is a tie and he/she gets the deciding vote which, in Obama's term happened exactly once. One of Roosevelt's VPs described the job as, "a bucket of warm spit."

She should stay in the Senate, gain seniority, and become Chairwoman of the Senate Finance Committee. You get to wield a big bat with that seat, and the public visibility, too.

Th D's need to get back the Senate, and if Warren were to run with Clinton, who's to say a Dem would win her Senate seat. Way too much ris.

We take back the Senate and the House!

Who cares about a Republican governor and his centrist Massachusetts Republican pick to replace Senator Warren?

This contest is bigger than just one senator!

5. Home owners don't get hurt when people purchase foreclosed properties

It's the predatory lending that hurts. Warren didn't drool over it either. Some of those homes were bought for family members as I understand it.

15. Both acted in a predatory manner

Both got properties at very low prices after people had been thrown out of their homes. One laughed his way to the bank, and one presumably cried her way to the bank. Explain to me the practical difference.

It's like you tell your kids. Watch what I do, not what I say.

27. Please explain how "buying" a foreclosed property is predatory?

Only the loan holder (banks) can decide to foreclose. The buyer just comes along and basically promises to assume that loan.
The nasty, predatory part about trump was vocally hoping for more misfortune for others.

29. The poster didn't even read the article -- just dumping on Warren for some reason.

The link posted has been dead for nearly four years - the newspaper archived the story in 2012. It requires a fee to access anything more than the summary, and the poster clearly didn't do that. He just saw the headline and posted it without bothering to see if it actually linked to anything.

18. That link is dead.

HuffPo's link just goes to the BH's home page. Did you even try it or did you just post it without bothering to actually look for the story?

A search on the BH website yields this from four years ago: http://www.bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_politics/2012/06/records_prof_profited_buying_selling_homes

which doesn't say much. Their one example was a house purchased and sold in 1993, so I'm not sure how relevant that is to anything. I'm not paying $4 to read the rest of it. Since it's your link, feel free.

11. 'everyone' snapped up cheap foreclosures. real estate flip is the #1 'investment' of vultures.

Wish someone would look into the largest real estate transactions, government owned properties in places like Palms Springs beachfront- sold into private hands for pennies on the dollar.

Millions $ Real estate deals with people like Trumps old friend Gadaffi.

20. Warren is going to be Hillary's wing man

for the rest of the election.

She did this two weeks ago when she baited Trump on Twitter, and it is going to continue.

Hillary can't muck it up like this. She has to be presidential and the adult, and her campaign has to NOT respond to his juvenile bullshit, while taking very careful and measured policy shots.

BUT, someone (more than one, in fact) has to get into the mud with him a bit, and Warren is ideal. She is tough, she is smart, she has a pretty high level of respect, and even better, as woman will REALLY get under Trumps skin. And, honestly you can tell she likes doing this with him.

I also suspect that once the primary ends, Bernie will also get active in going after Trump.

They can't be the only two, others have to get into it with him, too.

Force him to respond to them instead of his initiating everything.
