Former aide: GOP lawmakers privately touted voter ID as helping them win elections

Source: Wisconsin State Journal = Mark Sommerhauser

State Sen. Mary Lazich, urging fellow Republican senators to enact a voter ID requirement in a closed-door meeting in 2011, told her colleagues to consider its impact in the Democratic strongholds of Milwaukee and the state’s college campuses, a top aide to a former GOP senator testified in federal court Monday.

Congressman Glenn Grothman, serving at that time as a state senator, said in the same meeting that he supported voter ID because it would help Republicans win elections, according to the aide, Todd Allbaugh.

Other Republican lawmakers in the meeting appeared “giddy” at those prospects, Allbaugh testified. At the time of the meeting, he was chief of staff to then-Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center.

“What I’m concerned about here is winning,” Grothman, of Campbellsport, told his GOP colleagues, Allbaugh said.

propaganda to make us all depressed and pessimistic about politics, to keep us away from that giant money trough, the USG.

The democratic experiment has never been more vivacious than today. Hey, we have an African-American president, a health care law, marriage equality across the land, I could go on at length, but I'm going to go talk to a less pessimistic audience.

Don't bring people down during election season, it is voter suppression.

They're dirty, we know they're dirty, they need to acknowledge what they've been doing, as we move to a totally different way of doing things, and eliminate the advantages they've created for themselves, against all moral sensibility. They are thieves, and degerates. Why let them pretend they aren't?
