Donald Trump may talk a big talk about politicians and their scheming ways, but then he openly declares that he intends to take on a popular platform of another candidate. On Wednesday morning with five more states in his pocket, Trump did the on-the-phone circuit of news media, bragging about his wins and beginning to turn his negative attention toward the Democratic race.
Trump was asked about Bernie Sanders and the real estate mogul showed respect for his Democratic opponent, at least in terms of the ways that Sanders has attacked Clinton so far.
Well Bernie Sanders has a message thats interesting. Im gonna be taking a lot of things that Bernies said and, uh, using them. I can reread some of his speeches, I can get some, yknow, in many ways, she shouldnt be there. He said some things about her that are actually surprising.
He said that shes got bad judgement. When he said bad judgement, I said Sound bite!'

So Trump plans to run to the right of Hillary Clinton, and to the left
of Hillary Clinton.
George W. Bush clung tightly to Al Gore in September and October 2000
with innocent sounding statements that echoed Gore closely.
Don't say it can't happen again.
Hillary Clinton will not get much air space from the media, which is to
say she'll have difficulty delineating differences with Trump.
It's a short article, but be sure to read the whole thing if you have time.

(114,055 posts)BIG DIFFERENCE.
Anyone who falls for Trump's act now would be betraying what they claimed they loved about Sanders. At least Clinton matched Sanders on many policy issues and would be the closest to Sanders in nominating Supreme Court justices.
Trump is the most inauthentic candidate I've seen since Bush. He must really think Sanders supporters are as dumb as his supporters. Newsflash, Donald: We're NOT!

(2,166 posts)1. While Hill said 'this country will NEVER have single payer!"
Trump came out in favor of Single Payer in the past:
""Trump wrote 15 years ago that he supported universal healthcare because we should not hear so many stories of families ruined by healthcare expenses, writing that Im a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one.
Trump argued that we need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan a key plank in democratic socialist Bernie Sanders 2016 campaign platform, Pointing to Canadas government-run healthcare service, Trump said the U.S. will have to improve on the prototype.""
2. Unlike Hill, Trump has made a commitment not to cut Social Security.
3. Trump makes no bones about his disdain for banks (he is a business person,
first and foremost). I think he would LOVE to break them up.
THESE are some of the reasons the GOP hates him.
THESE are some some of the reasons he will shred Hillary.
We better hope and pray Sanders wins.

(2,479 posts)You could call one comment, a "Platform."
Now if he does come out for $15 an hour, along with his already to the left of the Hillary position on Trade Agreements, he's liable to have something.
In fact, I think that is what he's going to do, try to run to the left of Hillary, be more populist than Hillary. And if she reverts back to the "free trading," $15 is too much, you can't have health care poor people, you can't have free educations people, Democrats she's run as, I think a lot of Sanders supporter will think about voting for him.
I have said all along in various places on line, that the whole Trump campaign has been a big act, to draw in the rubes, the rednecks, the southern racist types. And he's succeeded. You are going to see a more well-spoken person, with a set of policy positions that begins to embrace the working people that Democrats began to lay down, in the last sixties.

(4,523 posts)I keep hearing trump supporters say that "at least he's not bought and payed for".
Now of course - he's already IN the billionaire money club - but there is a point about wondering what he really wants: to win (and that means doing whatever the voters want) or wanting to win for ??? the wealthy and his own $$
Or a combination - who knows?

I doubt it. They are not "the rubes, the rednecks, the southern racist types" that so prevalent in the republican base. Perhaps I am just speaking for myself.

(24,020 posts)There is right-wing socialism too. In fact, I consider that nationalism is a sort of socialism in a certain sense - it's a politics based on the group called nation. Many "conservatives" are in actuality more nationalist in their orientation.

Indicted for what? Whatever fictitious trumped up stories the GOP and Media have played over and over again in the media even though NOTHING has ever been charged? I would think if the women was to be indicted on SOMETHING it would have happened by now. It's only be twenty years you'd think they would come up with something.
Oh wait, they have - a way to divide the democratic party and make people not trust her.

(95,337 posts)I stop watching cable news and just read newspapers and learned to form my own opinions about people instead of having my mind bended over the years. Also helped that I've pretty much avoided GD/GDP for the most part and realize it's all opinions, most formed also from years of cable TV viewing.
I have no problem voting for Hillary or Bernie in the general election. Nothing you can say would convince me to vote for anyone but the democrat come this fall.

(17,953 posts)It very well could be that he is to the left of Hillary on most things. We do know that he has no problem with stiffing the banks and investment firms through all his bankruptcies. That may be the main thing that resonates with his supporters is "sticking it to the man" which just about every real working class person feels.
It will get more interesting as we go along I believe.

(953 posts)and how much more damage to the country and the environment that
Trump will do compared to HRC
Don't hit me with the fracking and oil and campaign donations routine.
Think about the National Parks sprouting up casinos and hotels with a big "T' on them
zalinda
(5,621 posts)it will make in my life. We always get the short end of the stick. Who cares about the National Parks, we can't afford to go to them anyway. The country and the environment? Have you been to the inner cities? We get waste water treatment plants in our neighborhoods whether it makes sense or not. We have high lead levels in our water because there are lead pipes leading from the main water source to our houses. If you want to change them, it will cost you, the last time I talked to the water department about 10 years ago, it was $1500. Do you honestly think this will change? I don't. We are invisible, unless we are making money for some corporation. Even our fucking food stamps is making money for some bank.
Then there is the poor rural communities, they vote Republican because at least they are Godly people. You do realize that there are some rural communities that still don't have running water or a sewer system. Their ground water may be so polluted that it lights on fire, or just makes them sick with some sort of fatal disease. Democrats look on the poor rural as just plain stupid, and I don't see that changing any time soon.
But keep up the banging the drum, you'll sing a different tune when you end up joining us.

(953 posts)You are using illogical universal insubstantiation to justify your
defeatist attitudes.
We shouldn't abandon the National Parks because the inner cities are a mess,
we should have a jobs and investment program for homeowners and neighborhoods
to improve their lives. Renovation of existing homes instead of depletion of
farmland that can feed us.
Know your boundaries. You do not speak for me.

(4,307 posts)That's not an insult, it's a description. Trump will never be consistent in anything he says, which is a classic symptom of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Technically, it's not even "lying." Truth is not a relevant concept when dealing with someone with NPD, because it has no meaning to them. Their brain will only process what they need at that exact moment to make them feel good about themselves. Five minutes later they will completely contradict themselves, without any awareness that they're doing it. Their sole focus is on feeding their ego.
Someone like Ted Cruz lies knowingly and consciously. Trump just reacts to his emotional needs.
You judge which is the scarier prospect for our next president.

Bernie's populist message and platform are so instep with the people and the times, it's no wonder his progressive ideas are adopted by those on the right and right-lite.

(5,668 posts)so expect the same slant Bernie got now on Hillary and people will complain and Bernie we the people not with her will look and shake our head. Welcome to our world. Media paid for it and I guess people bought it hook line and sinker like the Repukes do. naturally Donald would run to the left of her he's a moderate. He was for the assault weapons ban. X_X do'h. He's for abortion, Planned Parenthood. DO'H . It'll be an interesting 6 some months of = vs = . Which might be good in a sports game but not in politics. I went alone in 2004 and voted for John Kerry , knowing he'd lose. Albeit John Kerry's ideas are more in line with mine and still are. I can't say the same about Hillary. Even Obama, most of his ideas are in line with mine. Al Gore same thing. Only reason Bill Clinton was good was because he had Al. Only way I see anything happening is for Bernie to be VP. 1. Not sure he'd take it but then again 2. I don't think he'll run as a third party as much as some of us would like him to. Similar to Draft Elizabeth Warren for a year didn't go anywhere.

(5,937 posts)Bernie too is for restrictions on free trade. That's where Trump will use Bernie's material on the policy side.
Historically restricting trade has not a liberal/progressive or conservative policy. It is a nationalist policy that has been favored at times and for industries when America was perceived to be at a trade disadvantage.
In the 18th and 19th century, the US was protectionist to develop its industries against Britain which wanted free trade at that time. Just as Britain switched from favoring protectionism to free trade when it became the dominant world power, so did the United States in the latter half of the 20th century. Even George McGovern, one of the most liberal progressive Democratic Presidential nominees, was a free trader.
Now that competition is fierce and other nations are threatening US dominance across the economic spectrum, protectionism once again becomes more appealing, especially in industries like traditional manufacturing where jobs continue to be lost in the US.
