Man Shot, Killed During Sunday Service at Montgomery County Church

Source: NBC Philadelphia

An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed inside a Montgomery County church Sunday.

The incident occurred during the 11 a.m. service at the Keystone Fellowship Church on Stump Road just off Route 309 in Montgomeryville. Police say 27-year-old Robert Braxton, a member of the church, was involved in an altercation with another church member. During the altercation, at least one shot from a semiautomatic handgun was fired.

Police arrived at the church at 11:23 a.m. and found Braxton, of Montgomeryville, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Abington-Lansdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m.

Police say the church member involved in the shooting was also injured during the altercation. He was taken to the hospital and later released. Investigators say the man is cooperating with police and no charges have been filed against him. They are currently trying to determine whether or not the shooting was justified. They also said the man has a concealed carry permit.

"The incident occurred in the sanctuary of the church while hundreds of people, including children, were present, authorities later said. At least two dozen witnesses were taken to a local police station to give statements."

( From the link. )

Hundreds of people, including children. Only one dead. It boggles the mind.

"a special guest pastor was scheduled to speak during its 11 a.m. service on Sunday about "serving in a country that is extremely hostile to the Christian faith."

"Please note: for our guest's safety, no photos or videotaping will be permitted," it added."

Sounds like a very paranoid group to me.

On what planet would a shooting in a crowded sanctuary be justified?

For example, if you are being brutally beaten in a crowded sanctuary by someone who is showing no signs of stopping. Self-defense is acceptable everywhere. I again have no details, but it's at least apparent that there is some question as to justification since the shooter, in front of hundreds of witnesses no less, was not immediately arrested.

I reiterate I have no idea or even guess as to the facts here. I'll wait for the investigation, but an unarmed assailant can easily threaten someone's life. I know everyone on the internet is a capable hardass but some people in real life are not, and can easily be beaten to death by a stronger and more violent opponent. It happens pretty much every day in fact. While I'm neither corny nor ideological enough to assume the famous cliche about Colt and equality is gospel, it is a cliche for a reason. That's a very legitimate use for guns.

Can't count how many people Jesus shot in temple during his life
It seems it went on in every book of the New Testament
Given the carnage, I still admit I was surprised when Jesus shot Thomas three times for doubting he had risen

1 dead, 1 'cooperating' after shooting death in church

Updated 9:16 pm, Sunday, April 24, 2016

NORTH WALES, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a dispute between two members of a suburban Philadelphia church during a Sunday worship service ended with one person shooting and killing the other.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said the disagreement escalated from an 11 a.m. "disturbance" at Keystone Fellowship Church in North Wales. Authorities didn't say what the disturbance was or describe the crux of the disagreement at the evangelical church.

Police were called and found Robert Braxton, 27, of Montgomeryville, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Abington Lansdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after noon. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

Steele said the other man involved, who was treated at a hospital and released, was cooperating with police but was not in custody as investigators determine whether charges are warranted.

Somebody get pissed off and kill somebody and ruin their life without thinking.

That's why the only people who should carry guns are ones who actually have some chance of getting robbed or something.

Otherwise it's just a potential for tragedy when somebody has had a bad day.
