Rob Ford is in palliative care, his office confirms

Source: Toronto Star

Rob Ford’s family is trying to make him as comfortable as possible as he continues to battle cancer in palliative care at Mount Sinai Hospital, his office has confirmed.

“Family members have been with him around the clock,” Ford’s brother and former city councillor Doug told the Star. “I have been at the hospital for the last five days and nights by his side.

“Rob is a fighter and continues to fight. We are so grateful for all the support for him from all over the world it is incredible!! We want to thank the Doc’s and Staff at the hospital they all have been amazing.”

Ford, who dropped his mayoral reelection campaign in 2014 due to illness and was diagnosed with pleomorphic liposarcoma, was readmitted to hospital last fall after doctors found tumours on his bladder.

With some types of cancer we have had some real breakthroughs but
with other types we have had little progress despite years of work and
billions of dollars.

apparently komen and others rank among the most corrupt charities. i'll dig up a link if you're bothered.
i work as a medical advocate and you would not BELIEVE the stupid shit they waste money on, nor the frankly inept gov't officials running any number of programs.
the intelligence is there but the funding is all wrapped up in politics and greed.
and scientists and medical doctors especially are incredibly stupid and biased in very specific ways.
it's a complicated topic but we cannot simply throw up our hands in the air and say "it can't be done".

Even with the many years that Reagan ignored the epidemic, there are few problems we've thrown as much human ingenuity and money at as we've spent trying to cure HIV/AIDS in the past 30 years. If it was merely a matter of effort, will, manpower and funding...we've have solved that curse twice-over by now.

don't bother?

my guess there are a lot of really bright ppl not working on the problem because can't get education. fix this and we see ingenuity go thru the roof.

my feeling on AIDS is that we've seen an incredible amt of progress in a v short amt of time. i am learning however that a lot of the problem is a social one and that's not prudery but rather a comment on the sociopoliticaleconomic status of women and girls. maybe deduct some points from the catholic leadership as well.

I really disliked his politics and the damage he did to our city, but he's clearly had to deal with some serious baggage in his life. When I first heard of about his cancer, I felt quite sad for him. The prognosis back then was pretty bad. He's put up a good fight, and I hope he can somehow beat this. But if not, then I wish him a peaceful and painless end. Poor guy.

All of it plus other issues has got to make it even tougher for him.

It would still be nice for him to beat this and change his life for the better.

as a monolithic bunch of polite, reasonable, honest and hardworking people. While the horrified populace of Toronto watched helplessly as his buffoonery made a mockery of the very image of Canadian decency, Rob Ford entertained the rest of the world with his self-destructive shenanigans. The only thing more shocking than Rob Ford's actual behavior was the level of stunned disappointment the denizens of Toronto displayed at their legal inability to do anything about Ford's acting out, as this sort of thing was never even conceived of in Canada before this time.

Americans were actually jealous of Canadians because Ford's behavior, the most outrageous ever seen in The Great White North, was by comparison to the daily idiocy of American politicians, mostly republicans, was actually considered quite mild.

America sends it condolences to the Ford family, and a general, "you ain't seen nuttin' yet" to our frosty cousins.

They were quite embarrassed over Rob Ford, even as far away as central Alberta.

Main reason I hope he had a easy, painless passing and express sympathy for the family is that it scores points with the big guy upstairs.
