Police: Man charged in child sex abuse case shoots at victim

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Officials say a Pennsylvania man out on bail in a child sex abuse case fired six shots into his accuser's home before fleeing in a car that overturned, leading to his capture.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan says 63-year-old Douglas Kohen now faces charges of attempted murder and witness intimidation. Hogan says he shot through a window Sunday in the West Goshen home, where the accuser was with another child and her father.

Hogan says the shots went through the wall and into a second home. No one was injured.

Acting Downingtown Police Chief Howard Holland says Kohen was caught within hours.

Can someone please explain to me why someone who is charged with child sex abuse gets released on bail. I would have hoped it wold be obvious this is a throw away they key kind of situation.

He's going to have to cool his heels in the can until his trial comes up. Judges who grant bail don't like it when these guys shoot at anybody, especially kids who have accused them.

16. From what I understand,

bail is more about how much of a flight risk you are. And it's difficult to deny people bail when they're not a flight risk because they aren't actually "guilty" in the eyes of the law yet.

On the upside, he's going to prison for a long long loooooong time. Even if they couldn't have gotten the abuse charges to stick, they won't have any trouble putting him away on the new charges.

Court Procedure. Dufus undoubtedly has a clean record and as a first time offender these people walk with minimum bail.

9. Most likely it was the only time someone

intervened and most likely a School Nurse or guidance consular. Living in the Southwest,we hear these horror stories on a weekly basis. Most of the cases have a certain Religious overtone or total dysfunctional family units. As you said,first time this Perp has to answer for his abuse.

14. Oh the window shattered all right. But it looks like these were interior plexi storm windows, so

the shattered (float) glass was on the outside. Not that it helps all that much when bullets are flying into your home.
