Chism sentenced to life in prison with eligibility of parole for teacher's murder

SALEM — A Salem Superior Court judge has sentenced Philip Chism to life in prison with eligibility of parole after 25 years in the murder of Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer.
Chism, however, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for each rape and robbery count.
This means Chism, 17, won't be able to seek parole until he is 54 years old.
Prosecutors wanted Chism to spend at least 50 years in prison for Ritzer’s rape, robbery and murder before he is eligible to seek parole.
