9 on Walker's security team got five-figure overtime checks

By Patrick Marley of the Journal Sentinel
Feb. 22, 2016 3:33 p.m.

Madison — Taxpayers cut nine checks for five figures — including one for more than $93,000 — to members of Gov. Scott Walker's security team last year after a federal agency found the state had wrongly withheld overtime pay from them.

In all, taxpayers had to pay more than $577,000 to nine current and former members of the team to cover overtime pay from May 2013 to May 2015, according to the State Patrol. That's a period when the GOP governor was ramping up his run for president — an effort he abandoned in September amid fundraising trouble and plummeting poll numbers.

The security team provides round-the-clock protection for Walker and occasional security for his family, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and visiting officials.

. . .

Three others were paid between $62,000 and $66,000 each, one was paid about $55,000 and one was paid about $10,000. All those payments came on top of the employees' regular pay of $70,000 to $82,000 a year.
"This is over the top," said Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton). "He's the governor of a Midwestern state; he's not the president of the United States."

( from the article referenced above)......

"All those payments came on top of the employees' regular pay of $70,000 to $82,000 a year."

Interestingly, when Walker and the Republicans busted unions in WI, the police and state trooper unions weren't affected, but were exempted. Wonder if that had anything to do with the close family ties between certain lawmakers and their relatives working in state law enforcement???

"The father of Wisconsin’s two most powerful state lawmakers was just picked to lead the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Department of Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb, with Gov. Scott Walker’s blessing, announced the appointment of Stephen Fitzgerald, 68, to the position Tuesday that will pay Fitzgerald $105,678 a year and boost his public pension just as he presumably nears retirement.

Fitzgerald’s eye-rolling appointment also follows his defeat in the fall election for Dodge County sheriff by a 2-to-1 margin. So he’s been seeking employment and just bounced back big time by landing a law-enforcement gem."

Unbelievable that a dirt bag Koch-tool like Walker can stay in office.

He's been out of the news cycle so long already i've done went and forgot what his outrages were, but I remember they were a'plenty. I was just sure that computer sitting just outside his office door was gonna get him out of office, but it never did.

If these guys are hourly employees and not salary, why shouldn't they be paid the overtime?

See, in Walker's tiny mind, the large security detail equals his importance. We know this is just another manifestation of his delusions of grandeur.

The most bothersome issue is that the State Patrol is allowing itself to be used as pawns in Walker's disgusting assault on Wisconsin. Shame on them. They should have stood shoulder to shoulder with the hardworking union members protesting Act 10 in 2011. Instead they, with Fitzgerald (lack of) leadership, chose to protect the criminal element known as Walker et al.

The little respect I have for (most) authority figures evaporates more every day.

Wisconsin needs to lock up Walker, all 3 Fitzgeralds, Voss, Bradley, Becky K, AFP, GPS, ALEC, Koch ET AL!

And in a larger sense, what the hell has happened to Wisconsin? Used to be one of the most progressive states in the nation.
I remember going to Madison in the 70s and seeing people smoking pot on the street, and the cops ignoring them cause it was only a $5 fine at the time. This was when people were getting 10 years for a couple of stems and seeds in Texas. Now the Governor sounds like he should be in the Texas capitol, not Wisconsin.
