Governor John Kasich Signs Ohio Bill to Cut Planned Parenthood Funding

Source: NBC News

Republican presidential hopeful and Ohio Governor John Kasich on Sunday signed a bill that aims to strip funding from Planned Parenthood in the state.

It's a long-expected but controversial move that ignites a debate that seeped into his presidential campaign. Kasich faced a number of protesters this week while campaigning in South Carolina who challenged him on the issue during his events.

After Kasich came in a strong second place in the New Hampshire primary, the Republican assembly in Ohio passed legislation that targets about $1.3 million in funding for Planned Parenthood in the state.

That money helps support screenings for breast cancer, STD testing, programs working to prevent violence against women, and more. State and federal laws already prohibit taxpayer dollars from going to fund abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.

Democracy Now showed parts of his speeches a few months ago so I already knew he was extreme right. He's just not as loud as the others. He's a little less insane too but that's not saying much because we're comparing him a massively insane clown car.

The unmarried women thing constantly raises my eyes that it shows up in legislation against women, I mean wth, who focuses on that kind of thing and with vitriolity? They do. I'm worried about blacks and browns mostly though. I think there's an undercurrent that wants to kill them.
And Trump spouts Tea Party rhetoric. I think he is a little enough man to go for insanely crazy genocides under the race war they keep muttering about. They are scaring the bejeezus out of me. And, I'm not so sure I should be telling myself to dismiss it.

If we all sat it out, if we all vote for one of the two candidates or the other, it still won't matter in the big scheme of things. We all do little things, whether donating, phonebanking, doorknocking, just talking to our social networks or friends and family. But it's what every other person does that makes the difference, not just the few hundred or thousand on here.

Seriously, there isn't a single candidate running that gives a single damn about helping the poor or middle class. It seems like the extreme far right has finally taken over and wants us to move back to the 19th century!

Do they expect women who can't afford birth control to abstain from sex? Here's an idea: reversible vasectomies. Oh. Wait. Can't do that. It's only female reproductive organs under government control.

22. This is a sad day for the Republican party and the country....
Sun Feb 21, 2016, 08:16 PM

Kasich was the only Republican candidate left that I had any respect for, and now he is giving in to the dark side to try and have a slim chance at winning the nomination. The Republican primary literally does not have any true conservatives left in their primary. Because this gang that's still in the race, are not true conservatives, there just light weight neo-con type Republicans with a far right ideology that betrays true conservatism. True conservatism is not racist, not anti-science, not anti-diplomacy, and not anti-immigration or xenophobic. True conservatism abhors nation building and starting unnecessary unjust wars based on faulty intelligence (that was widely known to be faulty). And true conservatism believes strongly in the Constitution, but not only when its convenient and fits with their ideology, but also when its not; for example this Supreme Court pending nomination fight.

The Republican party is being devoured by the neo-con ultra right wing Frankenstein monster created by right wing talk radio and the likes of fox news, and its a sad day not just for their party, but for this country. Because just like we are a stronger party because of candidates like Clinton and Bernie who do battle about whats the best way to move our progressive agenda forward, we need a strong Republican party, to help us do battle in how we move our country forward. And its not good when the Democrats are fast becoming the only adults left in the room with serious policy proposals about governance. We laughed at Trump's campaign at first, but now no one is laughing including Republicans. Now Democrats are laughing at how the true conservative wing of the Republican party is collapsing in front of our eyes, but just like Trump, its getting to the point where its no longer funny.

never a "moderate" or "reasonable"! Only cleaver packaging by his campaign and a gullible media represented him as such. In reality he's a hard core wingnut. Maybe not Cruz crazy, but certainly close. Unlike one of the previous posts, I haven't yet had the luxury of escaping God-forsaken Ohio but plan on doing so soon! Ohio continues to drift further and further to the right and obsessively promotes policies that are hostile to labor, wage earners, consumers, women, retirees, minorities, the environment, and public education.
