Security beefed up at national wildlife refuges in 3 states

Source: AP

By TERRENCE PETTY and STEVEN DUBOIS

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Additional security officers have been sent to national wildlife refuges in southern Oregon, northern California and Nevada amid the ongoing armed occupation of a sister refuge in southeastern Oregon that has caused tensions in the region and is showing no sign of ending soon.

Four occupiers remain holed up at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge south of Burns, saying they will not leave without assurances they won't be arrested.

As the occupation drags on, additional officers have been sent to the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex that straddles the Oregon-California border, as well as to the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Nevada and Modoc National Wildlife Refuge in northern California.

"No specific threats or incidents have occurred, but we remain vigilant to ensure employee and visitor safety throughout the Region," Jody Holzworth, a Sacramento-based regional spokeswoman for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said in an email Wednesday.

The Bundy gang has conspired to create a lot of trouble that is not snowballing but causing costly cautionary measures.

Their sovereigntist movement is based on a unicorn reading of the Constitution.

one still holding out at the refuge

Plus the number of women doing communication and propaganda work is substantial

The women are packing too and there is enough testosterone to keep both sexs supplied

2. Armed Oregon standoff suspends work in Redding (California)

Feb. 01, 2016

As a standoff between armed activists and law enforcement continues at a wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon, one federal agency in the North State is not letting employees work in the field and others remain on heightened alert.

Employees in the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Redding Field Office have been told to suspend all field work this week because of concerns over employee safety.

...

Jeff Fontana, a BLM spokesman, said there have been no threats made against any employees, but the agency wanted to be careful considering the issues fueling the standoff in Oregon.

...

Fontana said the alert affects employees working at all of the agency's offices in Redding, Arcata, Alturas, Cedarville and Susanville. The alert and suspension of work will last the rest of this week.

...

Employees with the U.S. Forest Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service have also been told to take extra precautions this week.

"A sign is displayed with the picture of LaVoy Finicum as part of the demonstrations outside the Harney County Courthouse in Burns, Ore., Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. Hundreds gathered to protest and support the armed occupation of a national wildlife preserve"

Very obviously devised to make it sound like there's hundreds of people SUPPORTING the occupation. But a more careful parsing will reveal they're just saying 'hundreds' were THERE ... not confirming in any way what each 'sides' representation was in terms of people. There's the 'protesters', and then there's the 'supporters' ... of the occupation. If you read closely. But they purposefully chose words and an image to make it sound like it's nothing but supporters of the occupation.

IOW, it's typical bullshit AP reporting, I really can't stand them. They've been leaning right/corporate as an organization since 2002, maybe longer. 'Liberal Media' ... pffft.
