Justices Will Hear Ex-Virginia Gov. McDonnell's Appeal
Source: Associated Press
The Supreme Court will hear former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell's appeal of his public corruption convictions.
The justices said Friday that they will review lower court rulings that upheld the convictions based on what McDonnell says is an overly broad definition of bribery.
A jury in September 2014 convicted McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, of doing favors for wealthy vitamin executive Jonnie Williams in exchange for more than $165,000 in gifts and loans. Williams was seeking state university research on his company's signature anti-inflammatory product.
The Obama administration urged the court to reject the appeal, saying the jury had ample evidence of bribery.

(5,902 posts)If you're McBribell the Republican, you get a slap on the wrist for major bribery because you're seen as a "friend to business."
Siegelman was pretty business friendly too; but he wouldn't kiss ass - and in an oligarchy such as ours, that just will not do.

(5,902 posts)It's common knowledge that Rove arranged this dog and pony show. If the fraudulent nature of Siegelman's conviction were to ever be reveled for the railroading it was, he knows he, former Governor Bob Riley, Judge Canary, and others would themselves face charges for malicious prosecution.
For that reason I suspect Rove must have called in all his favors with the Bush family (and their CIA ties), and must have gotten dirt on Obama of some kind (probably a youthful indiscretion of the kind that shouldn't matter one bit, but unfortunately does).
It's certainly hard to explain otherwise.
Anyway, welcome to DU CommonSenseDemocrat! Happy trails.

(23,971 posts)...years to work their way up to a SCOTUS hearing? This seems mighty damn quick. And, according to what I heard on the Norman Goldman show while driving home, he gets to stay at home pending appeal.
