Six US troops are reported to have been killed in a suicide attack near Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

The bomber rammed a motorbike laden with explosives into a patrol of NATO and Afghan forces near the US-run airfield, which is 30 miles north of Kabul.

1. Terrible. Right before Christmas, these families are going to get

the worst news. There seems to be no end to this conflict.

2. We killed eight Iraqis ( gov't soldiers) "by mistake" over the weekend.

At least they said it was a mistake.

But they ( Iraqi regulars) are supplemented , allied with , and backed by Iran, no?

I saw a quickie mention of it one of the cable news casts.

I wonder if any other outlets thought it was worth bothering about.

So what does it all mean.

I have NO idea. Maybe we should ask Sec. Clinton.

She's an expert on what's going on over there. Or at least OUGHT to be by now.

3. Focus

this OP is on the deaths of American troops in Afghanistan, in a war started by the Bush Administration, that the Obama Administration has not been able to conclude without the collapse of the Afghan Govt.

not Iraq, not Iran, and Hillary Clinton is not SoS. she may indeed know more about "what it means" that most of us, you in particular. i suspect it means that shit happens. friendly fire deaths have happened as long as there has been artillery.

if you'd like to post something laying these 8 friendly fire deaths at her feet, there's always GD Primary.

5. Agreed. THIS story os about the loss of 6 of our troops.

The need of some folks to drag stories off into another direction is irritating. I've probably been guilty myself, but I try not to.

6. My Hear Goes Out to the Families

My heart goes out to the families. My brother in law died in Vietnam in 1967 and that's why I have worked in the Peace Movement since 2001. I pray for the day when we will withdraw from the Middle East. Let's revive the Peace Movement and stop this madness.

9. Deepest condolences to the family and friends of these soldiers.

There should be an investigation into why anyone driving a vehicle towards a U.S. military convoy was able to get anywhere near them. The death of our soldiers has to stop.
